2wd in the snow - does the traction control help?
Hello guys,
I'm researching the new F150s and have been wondering how a 2wd extended cab or crew cab does in light snow.
I always said that I would only buy a 4wd full size truck, but I don't really have a reason for 4wd outside of the 5-10 snow days we have each year here in Kentucky. My friend says that his 2wd Chevy crew cab Colorado does just fine due to the traction control. Does anyone have any experience with a 2wd F150 in inclement weather? My experience with RWD in bad weather has been mostly bad, but I hear that the newer vehicles do well with traction control.

I live in Ontario where we have bad snow storms and last year I had no problems at all, and I didn't have any weight in the box, I had a 2010 F150 supercab 2wd 5.4. I didn't change my tires to winters either had no problems at stop lights taking off just punch it and watch everyone else sit and spin (lol)

Earlier this year I purchased my fourth Ford F150. After having some harsh snow over the last few years in Central Illinois...I told myself my next truck will be 4x4. I have to drive some pretty crazy country roads to get my kid to the sitter.
Now I am ready to play in the snow!!
For me the peace of mind...(while not Cheap) makes the difference.

I have a 08' 2wd. Live just south of you in TN. Never had any problems with snow or ice. On ice the truck slid to the left & traction control came on & corrected the problem. Never did get stuck in snow yet with the traction control. I'm like you I like 4x4 but once or twice a year never worked for me. So I'm sticking with the traction control on mine & love it.

All of my experience with RWD in snow has been without traction control (93 Ranger, 88 Aerostar and 94 Mustang GT), so I was hoping you guys would say that the truck would still be able to be driven without 4wd.

My 20" tire setup worked.. I added about 300lbs to back over the axle. It helped out.
this year I'm adding blizzak tires.
should be way better.
the traction lite was on almost all the time when accelerating or mild hard stopping..
And in the parkign lot when trying to do donuts. which never happened very well.

Traction Control Works
We just had our first bit of wet snow a few days ago. I turned on the traction control button, took off at lights faster than most cars that were spinning. I didn't have to use 4x4 at all. For me, 4x4 is for up north on the cottage roads. I also found that traction control would kick in automatically even without hitting the button; it would spin for several seconds and then kick in.

It's always ON, unless you turn it off!
