2nd gear slam
#11
Ditto. It's only on the 1st to 2nd upshift, only on very light acceleration, usually on a flat parking lot or slight downhill. Never from a stop, never on deceleration. It feels like a false neutral between 1st and 2nd, then 2nd gets shoved into gear and BAM, it catches with a HUGE jolt.
I've had people in the truck when it happens and they go WTF was THAT!?!?! You can't tell where it's coming from - under your feet, in the back, drive shaft, diff, tranny. It feels like tranny to me. I don't think TSB 12-7-13 is going to fix it but I'm happy to have it applied.
It happened again this morning when I was leaving a parking lot and only lightly on the gas through a drainage swale. Not a huge one this time but I still felt/heard it.

It doesn't just happen when it's cold. I can go several miles on the highway and everything works like a champ and then if I'm slowly coasting in a parking lot and hit the gas a little it jolts and feels like I've been hit from behind. It never happens on acceleration from a stop.
Note: My truck has been in for some flood damage so I asked them to apply the TSB while it was in. I'll let you know if that fixes it. They know about the problem and promised to fix it before giving me the truck back.

Thanks for responding. Shoot a PM my way; I'd like to look into this further. Include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealer - I'll see what I can do to help.

I'm in stop and go traffic a lot and it sucks... sometimes i just put it in 2nd, other times I use the tow/haul feature to help with it. I've gone in for computer tweaks with varying degrees of success. The last time the tweak worked for about 1 year of normal shifting until recently the 1 to 2 clunk fest returned. I can't imagine how a computer adjustment can wear out? makes me think it's mechanical... back to 2nd gear in traffic

Honey Badger, Mhamershock, I had the exact same issue with my 2011 2x4 screw ecoboost with 32,000 miles, starting with about 5,000 miles it would surge and shift so hard between 1-2 at slower speeds(parking lot) it felt like I ran over a curb and it sounded even worse. Ford replaced driveshaft And reprogrammed tcm several times with no permanent fix.
It would also hesitate for 1-2 seconds before engaging at stop signs and yields intermittently, then kick in gear and take off, scary at times, again no fix.
I got tired of it all the time with no fix, plus gas in the oil, I didn't trust it to not have major problems later on, so my solution was trading for a 2014 screw 4x4 5.0 it shifts way smoother and no hesitation, like it should be.

That's not how I read the TSB. If it feels like you're getting slammed in the back of the truck how in the world do you blame the transmission that is in the front of the truck? The slip is occurring in the rear of the vehicle and that is why it feels like you've been hit in the rear. If it was the transmission you'd feel it under your feet. Mine happens when coasting in the parking lot and I go to give it a little gas, something slips in the rear and it's not from changing gears. I've stayed in the same gear and felt the slam from the rear so I know it's not the transmission.
There is a reason the TSB has the bump in the description. The rear drive shaft is slipping and when it finally grabs you feel the bump like somebody hit you from behind. I've researched this a lot and my Ford dealer has too and we both came to the same conclusion.

And drive shafts don't slip. The 2 piece versions shorten and lengthen, but they don't slip torsionally.

Mine does this too. My powertrain warranty will be up soon and the stupid dealer doesn't know anything about the lead connector.
Its done it for over a year now, same thing mostly parking lot slow speeds.
My dealer here is horrible and the next nearest one is 3hrs away so not on option.
Once my 3 fords are gone (2011 Explorer, 2011 Fiesta, 2011 F150 Platinum) I am done with ford due to this pathetic excuse for a dealership.
