I haven't looked into it, but are there not folks out there manufacturing after market long range fuel tanks? I used to live in Australia where the distance between gas stations could be a major issue - big fuel tanks were not that tough to come by, and if they didn't quite work out there were auxiliary fuel tank options for many 4x4's. Usually the after market stuff was much stronger and resistant to fairly serious impact also, when you are in the middle of nowhere it is worth having a tank that can take a beating.

Here for example.

If not, seems like an opportunity for someone!!

Cool, Im not worried about labor costs, I would do the swap myself and have them update the computer for the new tank. Hopefully the parts pricing is not unrealistic. If it is cost effective maybe we can have a tank swap party and and swap both our tanks out at the same time.

They squeezed an astonishing 32.281 miles per gallon from the EcoBoost-powered half-ton.

Another interesting fact -- CleanMPG squeezed 36 gallons of gasoline into the F-150's 26 gallon factory fuel system by following a slow fill approach that utilized all of the gas vapor space in the tank and fuel lines. This required up to an hour to trickle fuel into the truck.

I saw that a while back, interesting read for sure.
Overfilling the tank is potentially harmful to the evap canister, yes?

Search the junk yards for a totaled one and then have a local shop do the work.
