Default VIA

If you are worried about the cost of diesel, you could always go with a VIA extended range electric truck...

They also made a concept version with two electric motors...800hp

Couldn't have been said any better!

You can polish a turd...in the end it will still be a turd...

BASE TORQUE OUTPUT: 369 to 421 lb-ft at 2,000 rpm
If these are the expected performance specs then its close to the Ecoboost in terms of torque. I just found these off a website so they could be totally different when it actually comes out.
I will believe 30mpg when I see it.

Congrats to Ford engineers for looking toward the future and finding new ways to bring power/mileage in a 1/2 ton truck.
Yeah, because a 6 cylinder turbo DIESEL is really copying a turbo gasser.

dude your reading too much into this. Ford came out with the twin turbo in there 1/2 ton (gas) and since its been a huge seller for Ford, Ram is now looking to follow suit in there 1/2 ton, doesnt matter if it gas or diesel. My feeling is Ram can do all they want to there trucks but until they invest in safety/crash tests then no crumpled tin can in my driveway, i dont care if it gets 40mpg. JMHO!!

This is not a Cummins going into the half ton Ram.

Currently General Motors & Fiat own half of VM Motori.

Dodge errrr Ram, should have used a 4 cyl. Cummins rather than the italian V6 they decided on.

Cummins has proven their reliability many times over. VM Motori on the other hand, is at best, unproven.

Yeah, what could go wrong with a FIAT sourced diesel? There is a reason that Fix-It-Again-Tony has a basis in fact.......I could be proven wrong, but this engine is going to be fun to watch on our highways.
Prediction? It will last one, maybe two years, then be pulled quietly off of the market. Parts will then become harder to find and more expensive, with used truck prices falling like a rock.

No way in heck would i ever trust a fiat engine. They were junk in the 80's. Dad bought one and it was a POS. He was so happy when he sold that car. Like you guys said, it will fail and then parts would be impossible to get or cost arm/leg and your truck would be worth nothing just like there cars are today, worthless. Other than the hot chick in there commercials and i bet she doesnt drive a fiat..
