I read an article about how in 2014, Dodge is going to come out with a 3.0 Twin-Turbo Diesel v6. Its supposed to get 30mpg. BASE POWER RATING: 221 to 268 hp at 4,000 rpm
BASE TORQUE OUTPUT: 369 to 421 lb-ft at 2,000 rpm
If these are the expected performance specs then its close to the Ecoboost in terms of torque. I just found these off a website so they could be totally different when it actually comes out.

Cummins will likely do a great job of making a small displacement diesel, but then they let Dodger put all that crappy Mopar stuff around it.

Darn, cant Ram engineers figure out there own engine? Copying what Ford rolled out, boy thats real original. Looks like Dodge is still living the Iacocca slogan under the "Follow" part. Hey Ram, come up with your own idea for a new engine technology,,,but i guess it saves money just to copy others than spend the time and resources to be original. Congrats to Ford engineers for looking toward the future and finding new ways to bring power/mileage in a 1/2 ton truck.

Personally, I'm glad Dodge is taking the plunge into the small displacement diesel world. Why? Because that means Ford will too eventually, and probably offer a superior product. Competition in an open market leads to good things, like new innovations. That's how we got our Ecoboosts.

Copying what Ford rolled out? When did Ford produce a 3.0 liter turbo DIESEL truck engine (edit: that's available in North America)? It sounds original to me and could probably be very promising if they do it right.

edit: Ford does produce a 3.2 liter five-cylinder turbo diesel engine for the Ranger....but unless you live somewhere like Australia, you probably won't see one anytime soon.

So the new Ram HDs has LED tails and headlight pieces and Ford is heading that way in 2015+, did Ford take it from Ram/dodge, or did Ram take it from Audi, Hyundai, MB, Porsche and aftermarket guys?

With the possibility of the EPA reducing the sulfur in gas/diesel it will drive the cost of fuel even higher. Diesel fuel is already much higher in my area than gas and if you drive the cost even higher it will be a wash to the good gas mileage, you can bank the 30mpg will be on the smallest,lighest base model with the smallest HP/TQ rating. I applaud Ford for trying to provide a Turbo GAS engine in there trucks. Maybe there is demand for a 1/2 diesel, to me its ridiculous, thats why they make 3/4,1 ton trucks for. I dont hate Ram, I just wish these truck companies would focus more on gas technology to increase mileage and get away from diesel, gas prices dont seem to be coming down anytime soon. I wont buy a nasty smelling,high maintenance costs,soot filled,loud knocking engine. JMHO!

Chrylser already uses this engine in the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's not a Cummins engine, but from the Fiat side. On the Jeep, they force you to buy high end packages to get it, so it ends up costing $7,000 more. Estimates on performance and MPGs for the Ram are all over the place, and just speculation at this point. It could be a nice alternative, but hard to justify with the cost of diesel fuel and the added expense of the engine up front. IF it gets the speculated MPGs, and IF it doesn't cost more than a few thousand more than the base engine, and IF you put a LOT of miles on your truck or tow a LOT, then it would be a nice option to have. But the Ram is handicapped with very low payload capabilities, so heavy towing is out of the question anyway.
Also note Ram is already having a difficult time certifying the new Hemi/8 speed combo in 2wd. I sure wouldn't believe any early numbers from them on the diesel, until they can prove it.
