I have a 2013 5.0 screw, I had a couple of times had the transmission downshift on a hill and slam into gear. My truck has 4100 miles, I took it to the dealer. They said they couldn't duplicate it blah blah. I found out when I picked it up they wanted to charge me $60 to diagnosis nothing. I was in awe that a dealer wanted to charge a fee for a truck with 4100 miles that is four months old.
Anyways, has anyone else had this issue

I hope you didn't pay it ??? No, my 3.7 has never done this...only about 1200 miles on it ... a '14.

No I didn't, I just looked at them and all I said was "I'm not paying for this." But my loaner was a xl 3.7 and the trans felt way better which was funny that a truck half the price of mine shifts better

Ive got a 2013 Screw with about the same miles on it. I haven't towed anything yet but I was looking for info on the Tow/Haul mode. I read a description of the tow/haul mode and it described what you are experiencing--downshifts going down hills to save brakes and maintain speed. Do you have this mode engaged?

No just normal driving, only towed a small trailer about 30 miles

If you are towing and going downhill it will down shift. Actually one time i braked really hard going on a flat land and it throughs it in second gear going 45 mph. But all this when i am towing. It does downshift on steep hills too but not as aggressive. If you can take a vid when it happens and post it on here and show it to your dealer. Also these transmission have a smart controller it logs your driving habit periodically and act accordingly

Mines a '12. On cruise, it will downshift on a hill to maintain the speed you have set, without being in tow/haul mode, but it doesn't slam in at all. Sounds like your dealers mech needs to go on a ride with you driving.

Do you get the hard downshift on flat level ground? My 2011 does that from 5-4. Dealer did an adaptive relearn to try and correct it. So far the worst of my hard downshifts are gone.

Ya that's what I thought they would do, but instead they test drove it and no problem. Imagine that, an issue that happened a few times didn't happen in your 5 mile test drive. I work for another manufacturer and have similar concerns, which we follow up with a re adaptation. I submitted an email to ford customer service and the service manager, with no response. This is not the first issue I have had in the 4 months of ownership and really feel that ford has little concern over my experience.
This is my first new vehicle and my first ford. So far it has been far from perfect. I know ford customer service monitors this forum, so really looking forward to hearing from you

F150XTR

When my F150 was still under warranty, I brought it in for the famous speaker cutting in and out problem (you know, the one with a TSB issued). Left it with a dealer for the day, telling them it was intermittent, but very annoying. Picked it up and was told that the technician could not duplicate the problem. They charged me a $60 diagnostic fee. Said their time is not reimbursed unless Ford pays a warranty claim, so if they cannot replicate it, customer pays their time (for jumping in the truck and turning on and off the radio a few times).

Wonderful service, really impressed. I give customers non-billable advice and service all the time in my business and it often takes some time. Its called building a relationship and building loyalty. I think your dealer, like mine, and many in Canada, has forgotten this, or never knew it.
