Default 2013 f150 remote start problems

I have a 2013 f150 xlt 4x4 and when we first bought it I order the the range remoge start from the parts counter p/n CL3Z-19G364-A. It was plug and play I installed it dealer activated it. It works just fine but you have to lock the truck with the key fob before you hit the remote start fob for it to start. The dealer says this is normal on these trucks. Whats the point in selling a long range remote start system if you have to lock the truck first with the key fob that has the range of a hundred feet. Am I missing something here or did they not program it right.

It's working correctly. There's a sequence you have to use to avoid accidental starting. If it were a single button press you "could" do it while the keys were in your pocket or purse etc.

Hence the sequence: lock --> start --> start --> vrooooooom!

Yes I'll quote myself. I take it back now that I re-read what you were asking. You have the second transponder, but you still have to lock with the key and then remote start from the second transponder? That's a good question and I can see why you're wondering about it...

There's been a lot of talk about the 100 series vs 200 series remote start lately and I can see how that would defeat the purpose of the long range (200 series) remote start.

I have the Series 200 and I do not have to hit the "lock" button first. "Start" button x2 on the separate fob is all it takes.

Yea I thought there was something not right with it I may run by the dealer when I get the chance. When I had them activate it they sent some kid out to the parking lot with me with a laptop and cable . I had to show the kid where to hook it up at and coach him through the process because I had the install instructions. At least they didn't charge me for activating it. Lol

I have the 100 series (fob built into key) and you have to press lock then start twice.

What the dealer said is not correct !

I'm using the exact same model of starter in my truck . If my doors are unlocked and the remote start is activated the doors will automatically lock and then the truck starts.
