2013 F150 Ecoboost issues
Hey, if anyone could help me out I'd really appreciate it! My dad is buying a 2013 F-150 Eco... and he wanted to know if there are any known issues with them, or the 2012's that could transfer over to the 2013s. Now I know there was the whole condensation build up which was causing shuttering and limp mode, but according to what I'm seeing, that was taken care of in the 2013's. He will be using it to haul a small boat, 25 foot camper, and traveling from PA to Delaware, etc.. So is the Eco a right decision for him? Or should he look at the 5.0 V8? He just wants reliability, and the Eco drove 100X better than the V8 IMO. Also keep in mind that he only puts 7-8K a year on his trucks, and he is going to trade it in 5 years from now, so it will have the powertrain warranty for the life of the truck for him. Thanks!

Using a forum to find out if a new vehicle is a good buy or not is never a good idea.
Most people on a forum want to know if anybody has a problem with something.
If there are 100 people on a forum 98 think their vehicle is great but other 2 are the only ones you will hear from.
That is just the way forums work.

my 12' ecoboost has been trouble free. I absolutely love it.. I also test drove the v8 but ultimately decided on the ecoboost because I felt it drove better.
pulling/hauling whatever its worked just fine. I have the FX4/appearance package..all the bells and whistles.

I worked at a Ford dealer for a while when the Ecoboost was first gaining popularity and I got to get pretty acquainted with all the current versions of the new F150.
As far as the motor issues are concerned, outside of oddball things nobody can predict you shouldn't have any problems. Especially not in a '13 model. As far as if it's the right one to get, as long as the 25' trailer/camper you mentioned isn't to heavy you should be good to go. That's what was so impressive and a great sales pitch with the ecoboost. that you had surprising torque for a v6. plus in everyday driving the feel, response and acceleration is really good. If it wasn't for my personal bias of wanting nothing but a v8, i'd get that over the 5.0 myself. The 5.0 is a great all purpose motor too however, giving great power, and moderate to good mpg(depending how you drive) for a v8. Both better than anything chevy or dodge can offer

Nobody ever starts a " My truck ran great today " thread, so you will see more issues online than you will likely encounter in real life. Nobody I know, in real life, has had an issue with the Ecoboost, and I know a ton of people with them for work trucks and personal trucks.

I've got a 2013 EB with 11,000 trouble free fun miles. I've gotten up to 27 average miles per gallon on a trip to LA from SanDiego. I've done three trips to the San Francisco bay area averaging over 22 on two of the tips at 65 and between 19 and 20 on one at 80. If I had to buy another truck it would be another EB.
