Its obviously frustrating. But I sit here wondering what is the dealer supposed to do? Replace the rear end with another one that makes the noise as well? The trucks that they tested on the lot were brand new, making the noise.

Its strange that some trucks do it, and other trucks don't. However, its also strange that the trucks only do it on certain ground. Ice, wet long grass, sometimes mud, never gravel...
I dunno.. I gotta just enjoy my truck and not worry about noises. I!l keep using it and if it blows it blows.

I had a representative from Ford contact the dealership, to see what options were to get this fix. Dealership, and FORD continue to say it's a normal noise. Here's their explanation:

"The noise originates from when the electrical magnet only locks on one side of carrier . In turn, that locks the carrier to the left side axle, the internal spider gear has slight play and have an allowable movement of approx. 20 degrees. Since only the left side locks instantly, the right side has the 20 deg of play to make up before it locks. Basically, the back lash is causing the noise, made by the spiders gears."

I understand the "20 degrees" thing, because when I lifted the rear end, I can feel this play. But once the right side has caught up, or tightened the slack, whats the reason for it continually banging? I can feel the initial slack being tightened up, but then it continually bangs until I let off the gas.

MEH. I don't care anymore. When I actually need the locker, it works fine. Example: Uneven terrain when one wheel has lost it's traction, but the other wheel still has it. The elocker locks up solid, and it climbs the hill easily. It's only when both tires are spinning without traction, fairly fast, that it bangs uncontrollably.

Please keep this updated as to whether anyone comes up with a fix for this. My truck is brand new and I spun the tires in the grass the other day with the elocker engaged and it made the same noise. Not a big deal as I don't think I'll really be utilizing the locker much but would obviously like it to work properly. Kind of wishing I wouldn't have ordered it with the $470 elocker option. Just thought it'd be cool to say I have a locker but at this point kind of embarrassed to engage it!

Thanks for posting. I'm not sure we'll ever get a fix on this, as it would seem to involve a complete rebuild of diff, or a new diff. Prob not going to happen.

I'm also willing to bet this is happening on most, if not all e-lockers. I'm wondering if others are just not able to test in the right conditions that it happens on. Could be wrong. Maybe it's only happening on diff at the upper play tolerance level.

Thanks for doing this. Looks like mine is slightly more then yours, but not by much. Maybe enough to cause the banging tho.

So we got some snow here. Went to a parking lot that was nice and icy. I messed around with the e locker on, with and without traction control, as well as the stability control (press button for 1 sec, then press and hold for 5 sec to disable all control)

Zero chattering or banging, everything was 100% ok.

Nothing like the videos posted at all.
