I have a 2013 f150 5.0 doing the same thing I've noticed it does it after its warm at idle in drive with a weird knocking noise. Its proving to be an intermittent problem it has 11000 miles on it. Today I noticed that she's using oil, my oil level is at the low level limit on the dip stick with 4500 miles on this oil.

I have tried the sparkplug regap and the problem hasn't gone away. But it has gotten better mpg I average about 17.5. Also Ford changed the spark plug gap spec in the manuals between 2011 and 2013 (probably so they don't have to go back and regap plugs under warranty) I gapped mine to the 2011 5.0 spec.

I have a family Ford mechanic looking into my engine issues I will post an update as soon as I get one.

Every 5.0L I've driven has this cam lobing affect. Makes it feel like a muscle car. Also told it's normal.

I own wto 5.0's. The F-150, and the Wifey's Mustang. They both have the same lopping at idle from time to time. Nature of the beast. Mike Up, your probably like me, and remember the old built carb engines. Those things would/could lope you right out of the seat. But, damn they do sound good.

As far as the strange knocking, my trucks had a weird thumping at idle when it was new. It has stopped, but never really bothered me. I was fairly sure it was one of the pumps, fuel or oil making the sound.

I have had his issue since first week I brought it home. Intermittent rough idle which shows up regardless of engine temperature or how long the truck has been running.

First dealership visit no results. I asked about getting the spark plugs looked at with the ford service rep on the phone was told "they have not heard of that problem" and when I asked the dealership they told me "our techs know what they are doing". They took it for a test drive (drives smooth as glass, only idle) and did not notice it, didn't show any codes. While I was waiting for them to bring my truck out after the appointment the service manager came out to talk to me, she told me to bring it out next time it was actually occurring and she will have a tech look at it on the spot.

One afternoon after work before service had closed I noticed my idle was rougher than normal so I decided to take it down. The service manager had me pull it into the bay to look at, I was pretty happy because it was idling pretty rough at the time so I thought it might get looked at. I was told by the service manager that "We do not have any techs that can look at it tonight. But if you want to drop it off tonight we can get you signed up for a rental". I didn't want to pay so I just took the truck home and set up an appointment to get it looked at and another problem.

Wife went with me to drop it off one morning and they told her "if we can't find the problem this time we will charge you $99 for the techs time".

Guess I'm gonna give up on getting this fixed until I can find a garage or winter ends to check my spark plugs and see if that works.

Ned, if it is just a small shake from time to time your probably OK. It's hard to comment when I don't know how bad it is, but I hope it's nothing serious. Good luck.

I'm curious to know if the plug gapping is the definitive fix. I just traded my 2010 5.4 for a 2013 5.0 and I do notice the vibration at idle. Also my mileage isn't great. I heard about the loose air hose fix and checked for loose hoses all I noticed was that on the small hose coming from the intake to some sort of 'T' valve one hose had a compression clamp and the other didn't. Any thoughts ? This is my first post not my first Ford. ( 1956 f150, 2010,now 2013). Thank you.

I have been detailing my experience with the gapping at another thread (https://www.f150forum.com/f70/5-0-sp...ug-gap-212440/). From what I can tell it works for some people and not for others. My plugs were all pretty far out of specs, by regapping I achieved better city miles and worse highway mileage (went from 15/19 to 20/15) and my idle is less rough than it was but definitely still noticeable. It is a pretty easy job and worth a try.

I would be interested in knowing which hose in specific was repaired from the person who had this solve the issue, give me another thing to check and see if I can't find a cure.

Hey Ned , the one guy that mentioned it said he went to the dealer who told him they found a loose air hose going to the throttle body and they either secured it or reattached it. He said it ran fine after that. When I looked at mine I think there are only 3 air hoses going to it. I'll have to double check. I hope this helps.

Got tired of the rough idle and knocking noise, my dealer pulled the engine checked all the main bearings and rod bearings all looked perfect. So they replaced all the bearings installed new bolts and replaced the torque converter. So far no more knock and it idles smooth as glass. I claim BS on a cam lope.
