I really like the truck overall. I wondered about the lockup and whether this truck had that or not. It reminds me of what an Allison 643 does in a larger truck. You can really feel the lockup in shifts if that's what it is.

The no-go into gear seems like an electronic delay to me. I've had transmissions stall out when put in gear...but that was because fluid drain off in the converter.

I'm taking it to a larger dealer nearby. The dealer where I bought it seems OK...but I know a tech at the larger dealer who is a PowerStroke expert and I've talked to him many times with some trucks we have at work. He's top notch and I can tell he understands these vehicles and stays on top of the electronic technology that's out there.

I'll check the fluid level myself. Looks like I'll probably have to wear a Nomex glove because the converter is about 2 inches away.

I had a 1996 Bronco XLT for a while. I used to have to re-grease the driveshaft slip splines with Ford blue teflon grease on occasion to get rid of a "pop" when it moved. But I still may check the ring and pinion clearance someday although I doubt it'll show any issues. I'll check into greasing the splines on the driveshaft.

6000 miles now. Dealer reflashed engine and transmission. Bumping is about 50% reduced but still there. I still have the delay when shifting into gear on startup sometimes. I've noticed the delay has been up to about 5 seconds sometimes. Very annoying.

It still is very poor on gear selection when driving around town. It will go into 5th at 25mph steady cruise. And jump back to 3rd instantly with any throttle input. I can make it bounce 3rd-5th by just pulsing the throttle pedal. Doing so will create quite the noise in the driveline. There is way too much slop somewhere. T-case, axle...who knows.

I've purposefully driven carefully and tried to make it "learn" but it seems to get worse over time. The best it did was right after the flash. Then it progressively got worse again where normal speed town driving is just a bunch of shifting around and clunking.

I wish I could talk to a Ford transmission engineer on this and A. make sure there is no physical issues anywhere and B. discuss a program that would make this thing make more logical shifting decisions. It zipps thru gears all over the place with just throttle pedal input and no increase or decrease in speed. It's never allowed to accelerate in the gear it's in. It's always wanting to shift to do anything. Like the power of the engine isn't being utilized at all....it's all gearing decisions.

OH...I finally checked the fluids myself. T-case was 1/4 to 1/2 quart low. Transmission was below cold fill mark when fully hot. Took about 3/4 quart of LV to correct that. Thanks factory! And thanks dealership! For not checking those.

I have noticed a similar issues occasionally when putting my truck into reverse to back out of my garage. In most automatics you feel the the vehicle surge a bit in the direction of the gear you have selected (while your foot is on the brake of course). Occasionally I don't feel that surge in reverse. It feels like I've selected neutral and I actually often look down to ensure I haven't put it in neutral by accident. As I accelerate though, the truck starts to move. Anyone else have this issue? My truck is a 2013 FX4 SCREW with the 5.0L.

I couldn't have explained it better myself. I've had the same experience and I have a 3.7L 2wd SCREW.

I wouldn't even call that a issue personally, a smooth shift is perfect, no clunk means it's working properly. My 5.0 does pretty much the same thing, But it's starting to get a little rougher as it gets older.

13000 miles now. Nothing has been fixed. It's in the dealer shop now for the sixth time. It's getting pretty old, pretty fast. This is the second dealer now. They said the first dealer has performed everything they know of to do.

Yoke has been greased. Didn't help clunk whatsoever. No amount of flashing or learning smooths out the shifts. This truck doesn't know 6th from 1st sometimes. Crusing along in 5th in town and barely push accelerator down to gain a little more speed and wam!! Downshift to 2nd and the rpms go above 5000.

But the worst is the continuing issue with no-shift engagement or delayed engagement. This is not a soft engage issue. It's NO engage, free revving engine, then slam into gear as if in lockup. Everyday, about twice a day, I'll start the truck...wait about 5 seconds to shift...and nothing. Then after about a 15 second delay it will SLAM into either forward (or reverse if I'm backing out). It's really starting to **** me off. Everytime I get in the truck I'm spending time making sure it's actually in gear and not in some magic neutral. I'm about ready to put my foot to the floor when it does it and just see how tough the transfer case and drive shaft really is. I suspect something will eventually give.

They've installed new flashs, some little valves and trinkets, a new "bed plate" and a new wire harness. Nothing works. It'll do it the next morning. Fluid level is correct and everything. I'm starting to get the "it's normal" treatment, "they sometimes do that", "and dont shift too fast" etc etc etc treatment. When CLEARLY something is wrong.

To boot my 50/50 driving MPGs are averaging 15 still. Worst than the Dodge V8 quad cab 4x4 this replaced. And yesterday at a stoplight the idle became very, very rough. Shaking the truck slightly. Much rougher than ever before. No check engine light, naturally.

Right now it's in for 3 days. They are gonna tear it all apart again and see if the previous dealer has installed everything correctly. Just another 3 days of not having my truck, having to catch rides, and a general hassle. Probably for no resolution again.

The last new F150 I bought was in 1997. A 4.6L 5spd step side. It too had transmission problems they couldn't fix. So I traded it on a new GMC. I swore I'd never buy another Ford F150. And here I am again. Same boat. Pretty frustrated here.

3speed, I'm hate to hear your still having problems with your tranny. Contact Ashley, our Ford Customer Rep. here on the forum. She may be able to help you get this escalated if this next time in the shop doesn't work. Good luck, I know it's frustrating.

BTW, these problems do not sound normal to me. If they were, mine would do the same thing. And, it doesn't.
