The rings are entirely free to rotate unless a stop peg is fitted.

I highly doubt they would freely rotate into a perfect line...

I have read of pistons being knocked out with rings in line often. But I shall not argue over the point, just stating a fact. In this particular case if the rings were always in line, doesn't it make sense the fault could would not have taken a year to be thrown?

Thats what I was thinking except this engine just went over 25000 miles. (in canada).

Will be interesting to see whats gonna happen. Occasionally when driving without cruise on it would lose power since new (thought it was the transmission "learning"). It would be 2 seconds then be normal.

Oh well.

I think the rings in line were coincidental, but worn rings are worn rings. I remember reading some of the coyotes were bored to wide on TDC causing slap and other problems. That's what warranties are for. Stuff happens, I'm sure Ford will take good care of you.

Hopefully its a short wait. Miss driving my truck.

Driving a well equipped xlt from 2002 at the moment and it seems bare bones.
