I totally agree. Electronicly there is nothing different from the front cig lighter and rear lighter.

I hope you have a multimeter handy, so you can check the end thats goin into the GPS to see if that is getting power. If its not then check the cig socket. I believe (cant put money on it) that it is not making good contact.

I used to have a 08 dodge 3500 n i always had my gps plugged in the 12v outlet.
When i turn the key ON, its ON n when i turn it of, it turns of itself.

I cant do that with my ford. If its plugged in, its ON all the time.

Is there a way it can be made to work like the dodge. ??

Default Cig lighter not hot

My cig lighter was not hot even with the key on but my 12V plug was. I'm wanting to use a dash cam and have it turn off when I shut the key off. I dug out my manual and looked for the fuses. #22 is for the cig lighter and you know what? There wasn't even a damn fuse in it!! BUT there was one in the slot for power running boards which I don;t have so I simply pulled that one and put it tinthe cig slot and I'm ready to go. Them it wouldn't shut off so after I read of the 1 hr delay I'm getting ready to go out and teat that now.

What "1 hr delay" do you mean?

FWIW, both 12V power points in the dash of my '13 STX RCSB are hot at all times.

I don't use the 12v next to the radio, I find like mentioned, the cigarette lighter socket under the radio turns off when the vehicle is off. I've never had to use the 110v plug on the back of the console and the 12v inside the console I leave my cig adapter/USB socket plugged in as it's constantly hot. It has a small LED and in the 2 years of owning my truck I've never had an issue of my truck not starting cus of a dead battery.

I have the navigation and media screen in my truck from the factory but have used my Garmin to determine if my speedo is correct and I've used the cig lighter under the radio and found it's not a constant hot. My Garmin informs me "power supply off" and "do you want to leave GPS on or turn off" when the truck gets turned off.

I'm thinking of how many power supplies I have in my FX4 crew. 4 cig/12v plugs. Next to radio, under radio, in console, behind console. 1 110v plug behind console. 1 USB outlet under the radio. I think there is a USB under that rubber pad on the dash also.

Is it possible to charge 6 phones at once with that setup?
