2012 F-150 Cigarette Lighter 12V
I was just wondering if the cigarette lighter can charge electronics..I have my gps plugged in but every time I jump in truck, it won't turn on..the cigarette lighter does work lol.
I wanted to ask before I would take in for warranty work because that would be a pain.

I havent checked in a while but the front cigar lighter stays on for a bit after you exit the vehicle and the rear one stays on all the time. You can check by turning on the ignition then turinging it off. Stay in the cab the whole time, open the door and close it. While in the cab set up some sort of way to check each socket.

Anyone know if this port has that capability?

From the 2012 F150 Owner's Manual:
Do not use the power point for operating the cigarette lighter element (if
equipped).
Note: Do not plug optional electrical accessories into the cigarette lighter
socket (if equipped). Improper use of the lighter can cause damage not
covered by your warranty, and can result in fire or serious injury.

I think that's just legal-speak to cover their asses. The cig lighter does work as a power source. It might be that the plug for your GPS isn't making good contact in the socket.
There's 3 total power points on a Screw. 1 to the right of the radio, 1 in the flow thru console (if you have it) and 1 behind the flow thru for rear passengers. The cig lighter would make 4 if you count it.
edit: All electrical systems remain active for 20 mins after the engine is turned off and key out or until a door is opened. I'm not sure if the power outlets are still active after that.
