2012 Ecoboost Mileage Reports
Most of the mileage threads on the Ecoboost are for 2011. Since I already have a 2012, and am a high mileage driver, I thought I would give continuous reports on the mileage I get. See if they made any improvements on the 2012 over the 2011's.
Truck is a 2012 Ecoboost that I drove home November 18th. Screw 4X4 with 6.5 bed, 5.5 gear ratio. Xlt convenience, XLT plus, XLT chrome pkg's 18" all terrain tires . Has a soft tonneau cover.

Drove it home with 6.5 miles on it November 18th with a dealer filled gas tank.
Left on our first 300 plus mile trip we make several times a month on Tuesday November 22. When we arrived at our destination the gauge read 17.4 miles per gallon. Spent Tuesday to Saturday at this destination doing town driving and the gauge dropped to 16.7.
Yesterday we filled up the tank with 26.5 gallons of gas purchased at 2.95 per gallon . We had traveled 446 miles. The truck gauge read 16.4, on paper it was 16.8. We began our trip home.
When we traveled our 150 plus mile home the gauge read 19.9mpg. I was very happy with that. If I can average 20mpg on this trip I will save a lot of money over my 2010 truck. I even let my 17 year old grandson drive the entire way. I was teaching him how to "hypermile". I do hypermile although not at the expense of holding up traffic or being unsafe.
This trip is a combination of country driving, freeway, and stop and go driving. Another report when I refill this tank. We will be doing the trip again tomorrow.

Congrats on the new truck. Nice color it has. As of right now on my truck with a little over 3,000 miles on it I average 17.5 in the city and 21.5 on the highway. Your mileage will get better over time. But then again you are getting great mileage right off the lot. When I first got my truck back in September I really couldn't keep my foot off the pedal. I like the torque these little engines produce.

Hypermiling is trying to get the best mileage possible by staying off the brake and coasting to stop signs, pretending you are stepping on an egg when you accelerate and keeping the speed down to optimum mileage etc.
I still go 65 mph on freeway and will pass slow vehicles when needed. And I don't hold up traffic, especially 18 wheelers and others where time is money to them. I drive 25 to 30 thousand miles a year on my trucks.

Extreme Hypermiling includes EOC (Engine Off Coasting)..shutting engine off at lights..faster cornering to avoid braking...pulsing up speed and coasting down repeatedly..all the way to combining trips to keep engine warm..no ac or other eelctronics (to avoid loading the alternator)...

Best and simplest ways to increase your mileage without the extreme is to slow down, avoid hard acceleration, drive like you don't have brakes and plan ahead at stop lights.
To the OP, I really like the color of your truck.

Today we finished our second tank of gas. Put in 26.6 gallons and averaged 18.1 per gallon on paper and the exact same on the truck gauge. If this continues I won't have to figure it on paper as the truck gauge is very accurate. It was only .1 gallons difference from what it said we used and what was put in.
We has some snow here in Ohio so as the first pic shows, we had to do some idling to defrost windows and get rid of the snow.
The second pic shows we still can average 20 mpg on our weekly trip we make.
The third pic is of the total mileage, 986.1 miles and the total gasoline used 56.3 gallons for an average of 17.5 mpg so far for the life of the truck. Will be making this trip again next Tuesday. Owned the truck 12 days and already put on 986.1 miles.

Life begins after 20psi
If your driving is good and your around the 18mpg then try premium fuel and you might break 20's I believe that's how ford got their 21mpg highway stat, could be wrong but I doubt it
