Default 2012 Ecoboost 38k Bad Vacum Pump

I went to pull out of my driveway yesterday and about ended up in my neighbors yard. I had a stiff brake pedal and the antilock kicked on. I noticed a noise when first starting it up last week. It turned out to be a bad vacuum pump. The dealer will not cover this and it costs over $600. WTF? I would expect more out of Ford for a $50,000 truck. This should be covered since it is a major safety issue. I googled it and it seems to be a popular problem with these trucks. I guess after the CAC issue and now this that this just might be my first and last Ford.

If you are out of warranty, you are out of warranty. **** fails, it happens. Mine went at 50,00KM just made noise, no other issues though. I still had balance of factory warranty.

It's pretty well established at this point that the design of the vacuum pumps is poor. Many have had these pumps fail with low miles (I think mine failed around 20k miles).

The price for the pumps seems pretty high considering the poor durability. The replacements are said to be of a new design that is hopefully improved.

I recall someone posting that they used a GM vacuum pump at much lower cost.

You can find a video on youtube detailing how to replace the pump. It is easy to do. I believe the pumps can be found online for less than $500

The vacuum pump should be under power train. They should cover it. They are weaseling their way out of it.

Vacuum pump has absolutely nothing to do with the powertrain. If after two failed parts you want to switch vehicle brands, you'll have tried all vehicle brands in no time.

Mines in need of another it has the updated part. Noisy as ****. 39K km on first one 24K km on the (updated version). Therefore new version is no better. Old one corroded this one is losing a bearing on the motor. It is 100% a safety issue and should be covered indefinitely under a lifetime warranty. This is not a wear item like the brakes themselves.

There is an active Transport Canada defect Investigation into this issue on 11/12 f150s.
Case #3280-04-68 2011-2012 Ford F-150 with 3.5L V6 GTDI EcoBoost Engine, Vacuum Pump Failure Resulting in Hard Brake Pedal and Extended Stopping Distances, Date opened Oct 2014.

You are right about the safety issue. I was just thinking of my situation where I had no brake related problems, though it was a thought in the back of my mind.
