2012 5.0 Engine Tick
Guys My 2012 F150 has 2500 miles on it and the oil was changed at 1000miles. I noticed this mouring when I started it in my shop it had a slight tick that could be heard on the pass side I have not noticed it before. The oil level was fine and and pressure also so it drove it to town and when I got out and walked around to the pass it was still there. I drove it about 40 miles and when I got back this afternoon it sounded like the (normal) injector tick not a valve tick. Has anybody noticed this are am I crazy lol..I thought the 5.4 noise was gone when ford changed to the 5.0? My 2010 5.4 had a little noise but it was normal. This sounded like a lifter maybe not. Maybe it will be fine after the engine gets some miles on it?

if you did your first oil change at 1000 miles and changed to synthetic, that might be your problem as the engine is not fully broken in at 1000 miles, it takes longer than that for the rings to fully seat and synthetic provides "too much" lubrication for proper break in. also, the dealer saying that it is the injectors might not be them blowing smoke up your *** because injectors can be loud.

there is also no such thing as a lifter on an overhead cam motor. the cam comes into direct contact with the roller rocker which then pushes down directly on the valve. there can be "valve tick" but nothing attributable to a lifter.
many overhead cam motors exhibit a slight tick on start up due to the fact that the oil has to come all the way from the bottom to the top of the motor to lubricate the valvetrain components.

Yup. Lots of people can get fuel injector noise mixed up as a tick because they do tick and can be loud.
My 5.0 did exhibit a lot of ticking noise when I first bought it, but now it is very quiet. I now have 1900 miles on it.

My 2011 5.0 had the engine tick and it was the chain tensioner and had to be replaced. I think there is a TSB for it. It happens around 1000rpms only could hear it when first starting in the morning and on remote start.
