Default RPM question please help!

So I just bought a 2009 F150 XLT 2WD. I'll be driving and the engine will jump RPMs on its own and will vibrate. Usually only happens when I go uphill or around a turn. If I put the truck in 3rd shift... it doesn't do this. Not sure what it could be. CEL is on and throwing P0442 code (Evap) I do not have a gas cap. Feels like it's misfiring but it's not throwing any codes for it. Please help! Thank you and have a great day!

RPM's should go up when going uphill as the truck should downshift.

Right. But the truck doesn't downshift and it vibrates the whole truck. Like it needs to downshift, but it can't.
You really think I would be posting this if it wasn't a problem? This isn't my first rodeo.

Hi, when was the last time that you had your trans serviced. Waiting too long can cause the torque converter to shudder. I don't do rodeos, we are just trying to help you with what information that you posted.

You can still get this evap code 0442 with no cap. Check the filler neck.

Sounds like a torque converter or trans issue if RPM's are increasing and no shift, especially if the truck is vibrating as you say it is.

BTW, may want to lighten up a bit, esp when folks are only trying to help.

Thanks guys, I have only had the truck a couple weeks. Idk if the previous owner ever serviced the trans.
