2011 Lariat vs. FX4 (whats the difference?)
Guys,
I configured both a Lariat and FX4 the same, and the FX4 is $1000 less than Lariat.
Configuration:
Ecoboost
Leather
Center console
Max tow
Nav / roof
Standard 18" wheels
NO chrome pkg
Oxford white paint
The only difference i can see is the Lariat has cooled seats. This is a nice feature but not worth $1000 to me.
I am ready to order the FX4, but just want to make sure i am not missing anything.
BTW: I drove all three engines today and they are all great. I felt the 6.2 and the ecoboost were very powerful. The 5.0 has great power too, but liked the ecoboost best for it's power and potential MPG.
Thanks for your help / opinions.

Configure both vehicles again. Print the result and place them side buy side. Then go to the specific trim level and see what the differences are. I would say the Lariat has more convience/luxury items and the FX4 has a more of an off road package. I have a 2010 Lariat with all the bells and whistles and love it. Hope this helps. Or go get a 2011 catalog from the dealer and see what each trim level gives you and compare.

Not sure if this applies to the 2011's or not, but on the 2010's the FX4 have "sport bucket" seats in front. In the lariat (with center console option) the seats are not "sport." I could feel the difference between the two and preferred the Lariat's seats. It seems minor, but it was a big enough deal for me. I had my heart set on a FX4 before I realized I liked the Lariat's seats more. Good luck & enjoy your new truck! -Matt

I built a $46,015 FX4 4x4 157" WB and a $45,970 Lariat 4x4 157" WB ($85 difference) using your criteria listed and from what I can recall, here are the differences:
1) The EB is an $750 option on both trim levels.
2) Leather is standard on Lariat, optional on FX4 as part of Luxury Pkg. The Lariat buckets are heated and cooled, the FX4 is heated only.
3) Center console (Captains Chairs) are optional on Lariat, standard on FX4.
4) Max Tow - optional on both trims but axle is Limited Slip on Lariat and ELD on FX4.
5) Nav/Moonroof - optional on both trims, part of FX Premium Pkg.
6) 18" wheels are standard on both trims.
How did you come up with a $1k difference? I may have missed something during the build on www.ford.com site.

I went thru the same process. Lariat - Chrome, cooled seats, and *blond* wood interior. FX simple, off-road, and faux-carbon fiber interior. I got the FX. Kicked te chome-a-holic thing after my Harley phase.

I share your view. I sat in about 5 or 6 of each over a two week period, and prefer both the look and the feel of the Lariat seats over the FX4; although, like you, I really thought the FX4 was a great truck, the Lariat will be my next choice. Note: I have the XLT currently.
I am older, so I guess I do also like the extra chrome and trim on the Lariat too. My last truck, an F250 was black with black bumpers and grill; I got tired of that after awhile. Again, it comes down to personal taste.

I just ordered the fx4 with those options but candy red, guess I didn't look close enough when I choose the Fx luxury package with seats only being heated. I have the cloth seats in my 04 and liked them but never had leather and wanted the nav and remote start so decided on the luxury package, well I was worried the seats would be hot in the summer but figured the cooling seats would help. Now I am wondering if I should have gone the Lariat route, do those of you with leather feel the cooling seats would be a deal breaker on a new f150?
