I called two local dealerships this morning to get pricing on new replacement headlight assemblies (for a possible projector retro-fit). Both places said there was a production date cut off of September 22. If the truck was made before that, the headlights were $182 ea. If made after that they were $273 ea.

I know my build date, so I'm good, but it got me thinking what the differences were. They didn't know.

Does anyone know if it's just a cosmetic change or a more physical change with the electrical or the way it mounts.
Not a big deal, just curious.

There are two different headlights for the 2011 F150's, the difference is appearance.

The less expensive ones have the chrome trim, and the more expensive ones have the black trim (used on FX4, Harley, Raptor). I'm not sure which ones the Platinum comes with, but perhaps they changed from chrome to black at some point?

Yes there are two different headlight designs but that doesn't explain the date cutoff though. All 2011s were done the same way w FX and HD getting the black and the rest getting the clear or chrome. Im sure one of those is the black and one is not but again there wasn't a date cutoff during production for these colors so I'm not sure why the parts would have a date difference.

Yeah, I have the chrome housings and my build date was early September 2011, so I was curious what the production date thing and price difference is about.

Check with Tasca... they should be able to straighten it out for you, and save you a few $. But any of the parts guys should be able to use your VIN to get the right part for any vehicle, or look it up yourself using your individual VIN on www.fordparts.com
