Ford F-150 bad engine noise 500 miles
I bought a new 2010 F-150 super crew with the 5.4 triton last week on the 15th. It had approximately 250 miles when I purchased (brought from another dealer because I had to have white). I drove it another 250 miles. About five miles from my house started making a loud clack clack noise which increased with the speed of the engine. Sounded very bad. Called roadside assistance truck was taken to a nearby dealer. Not the one I purchased it from, They refused to work on it and told me to have it towed to the place I bought it. I called them and they were very helpful. However, I still do not have transportation a day later and my truck has been looked at. Just got a call saying it is a badly cast lifter causing the issue and they can have it fixed in about an hour and will drive the truck to me. What types of issues am I looking at with a faulty lifter. Could this have damaged anything else in the motor. I do not want to go through all this again.

Umm is this a normal with Ford or in fact all dealers? Never had a new Ford and never had to have a new vehicle looked at other than the selling dealer.

I don't know if this is normal. My first ford Ever, My Chevy this truck replaced was a 1990 with 389000 miles on the second rebuild. Still ran great wanted four doors. I love the overall make of the ford and am happy with it but now freaking out about the motor issue and if this is going to be something to haunt me in the future.

My mirror broke with about 5000 miles on it. The black piece under the mirror part fell out. I dont have the blinker there. anyway it fell out while i was driving and i didnt notice it for a while. Went to a dealer where I live now (not where i bought it) and they said they couldnt do anything for me. told me to go where i bought it.

I am very upset and unsure of how to proceed. Telling me now the lifter was bad and it damaged some type of roller bearing piece so they are ordering that peice new and will have it back in a few days. They are setting me up with a rental (dodge Ram).

I would raise holy hell! You bought a FORD product and the warranty can be serviced at ANY athorized FORD dealer! I specifically asked this as I was going to move across the country about a month after purchase! I say those dealers are lazy and dont want to deal with the warranty claims! I would contact Ford directly and let them know that their dealer is refusing warranty work on new vehichles.

yeah dont just give in they MUST see the truck its an authorized dealer. Dont just let them walk all over you call ford call anyone but dont let them blow that **** down your neck. Never in my years of owning a ford has this happened. I have had a few issues that I took to different dealers and they accepted my truck no problems.

if that dealer is refusing to work on your truck cause of where you bought it then i would talk to the Ford District Manager for the area. i ran into the same issue with my 04 when i bought it. bought it from one dealer cause it was cheaper and i worked at another one and they wouldnt do any service on it. so i talked to the area ford rep and he bitched at them lol.

I wouldn't worry too much about the noisy lifter. They will fix it and all will be good again.
I don't see it damaging anything else.
Most likely it is a hydraulic lifter that wasn't fully pumped up and what you were hearing was the clanking of the lifter hitting the roller rocker.
Happens in my flat 4 VW after it sits a while.
