2011 f150 slip yoke problem
i have what i believe is a slip yoke problem.
Problem=When coming to complete stop i get a clunk/thump noise from rear of truck. may also thump clunk when taking off from stop.
my truck is 2011 f150 lariat 2wd ecoboost
I took to dealer and they said they can not replicate problem. so now i will have to take back. I have seen tsb's for 2010 models but not for the 2011. i was wondering if the 2011 and 2010 had same slip yoke. i found a really good video of a raptor on youtube having this issue.
i can't say for sure this is my issue but is sounds very similar.

I didn't notice any clunking with my Eco but when they did my trans seals, the slip yoke shaft was all scored from the bushing. They had to order a new bushing and yoke.
Not really sure what exactly happened, they just suspected a bad bushing/seal.

Not sure if this is exactly my problem, But dealer said nothing wrong. First time I took it in they updated the computer. But trouble when it shifts down or between 1 & 2.. Rear-end felt like it was about to kick off the whole rear axle twice now... but as I sad this second time I've taken it back they say nothing wrong... 2011 XLT texas edition

How are the brakes? Sounds like something is binding, but not necessarily at the yoke. Do you have a child you can borrow and strap underneath their that can listen to various points under the truck as your start and stop?

I think I know what you are talking about. When you first hit the gas from a stop it clunks. This problem is coming from the rear end. I work for a large construction company and our whole fleet had this problem. One of the guys that manages our fleet told me that ford used some cheap washers somewhere in the rear end. He went in every new truck (dozens) and put a higher grade washer in place of the cheap grade. Since then, not a problem.

Back in the day, I would have thought it was U joints
I have a 2011 screw XLT, 5.0, and have started noticing the same problem. A clunk almost everytime I start from a dead stop. Not severe, but noticeable. A coworker has a 2012 and told me there is a tech bulletin regarding the grease used at the factory for the yoke. Allegedly it was too low a viscosity and is causing the issue? Mine has 47k miles, so not under warranty any longer, but am considering contacting my local dealer for advice.

Every pickup, regardless of brand, does it since the late 90s, and if your truck doesn't do it now it will with age. Seems some brilliant engineer decided a grease zerk on the slip yoke assembly was no longer necessary. If you want to "fix" the issue, it won't hurt the truck if you don't, is to remove the yoke, grease it, and reassemble it. It will fix it for a while, but it will come back. I just learned to live with it. Make sure you put a mark on the yoke and shaft before you take them apart so you can realign them when putting everything back together.
