A Buddy of mine has a 3.7 XL 4x4 Reg Cab 8ft box with tow package 3.73 rear end.
He took it from Ontario to New Brunswick and said he did over 900km before he had to fill up wich we worked out to be about 24mpg.
He is a tire fitter and still had has tool box,s+compressor+tail lift in the back so loaded heavey.
My Eco boost 4x4 avg about12-13ltr per 100km or17-18 mpg with reg cab 6.5 box and 3.55 rear end.
Hope this helps

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but there is no way your Bud is averaging those MPG numbers with that setup. In less he was traveling down hill the whole trip.

It is quite possible he did. If he came from Sudbury down 17 to Ottawa then down to Montreal and stayed on 20 through Quebec it is mostly DOWN HILL. You don't get any hills till just before N. B. border.I'm surprised he didn't do better.

We made the Sudbury trip in my 04 lariat 5.4l with the 98l tank and between Sudbury and N.B. we got 800kms out of 1 tank. That is the sweetest gas milage run that I know of. Would like to try it in my Eco scab this summer but if gas prices don't drop a bit before will have to take the 4cyl Fusion.

Gas hit 1.39 a liter here yesterday thats 5.28 a U.S. gallon.

I have a 2011 XLT, 3.7L w 3.73 Diff. Tires are 295/55/R20 Nitro trail grapplers. Love everything about the truck but gas mileage is sucking bad at 12.6 according to the computer. 5,500 miles on the truck. this seems awful low and is killing me at the pump. Any suggestions? Could the big tires be dragging the mileage down that much?

I have a 2012 F-150 XLT V6 3.7L w 3.73 axle ratio with Automatic and using regular unleaded 87. Also it is 2WD 4x2 Supercrew 145" wheelbase. Very POOR gas mileage since day 1 that I'm very unhappy with like Glenae said and My-Time. Took to dealer around 10,000 miles after they told me at 3,000 that it needed to get broke in more. They ran some tests and couldn't do anything. Now over 25,000 miles and still mileage is the same and hasn't changed since I bought it. 13.5 city / highway combined here in Nashville, TN. And 15.5 on Highway averaging 73-76 MPH. If I go 65 the mileage would be around 16. This truck and engine was rated 17 city and 23 Hwy. supposedly. I think the rear ratio 3.73 is a big factor that Ford should of told me about as everyone I talk to with 3.31 gets great gas mileage. Ford or the EPA should mention that the axle ratio affects mileage if it does that much.

I'm now thinking of taking it to one of these off road places that can tune it for mileage? Not sure if I can force the dealer to do anything else before the bumper to bumper expires at 3 years or 36,000 miles?

This was a good summary I read that someone else posted on ratios:

3.73 if you're off the line/performance/tow oriented.
3.55 for decent overall compromise gearing.
3.31 for economy, commuter truck special.

dont feel bad, my 3.7 has gone down to 12.5-13 in the past six months. Really chaps my butt...should have gotten the big boy engine if my gas mileage was going to be this bad anyways
