Ok, so my truck doesn't do this every time but I'd say I can get it to repeat about 90% of the time when the engine is still cold. After going about a mile from my house leaving for work, I normally hit a stoplight for a minute or two. About 5-10 seconds after I've stopped, there's a pretty noticeable clunk. It will normally do it about 3-5 times within say 15 seconds or so. It's noticeable enough that you can feel it easily within the cab. It almost feels like it wants to lurch forward or I don't have the brake pressed hard enough but pressing the brake harder or even letting of the brake doesn't affect it. Once I leave the stoplight and the engine warms up, I never feel it again. Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there a fix? I've searched through multiple threads and found issues with the drivetrain not being greased well enough but that seems to be an issue when still moving, which mine never does.

It's most likely the drive yoke not being greased. It happens at at complete stop like what you're experiencing and eventually it will happen when you accelerate from a dead stop. It happened to me around 6k miles. Took it in and dealership took care of it nth ray pretty much knew what it was. Regreased it with new grease pack and all symptoms went away. Now we'll see if this lasts.

Thanks for the reply, looks like I'll be taking it in to the dealership. I am surprised however that the drive yolk will still clunk when stopped. I know little to nothing about the drive yolk, but I assumed the drive yolk stopped spinning when the wheels stopped turning. I'm not doubting you badtziscool, just trying to understand a little more about what goes on down there. Also, I forgot to mention, it only does it when the engine is at around a 1000 rpms at idle then drops to around 5-600. Once it drops down is when the clunking starts. I doubt this changes anything but just realized I left that part out in the original post.

Mine does the same thing only on occasion but the dealers tech ruled out the drive yolk. Please post the findings so I can bring it to their attention.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Since the drive yolk stops moving with the drive shaft, I'm not really sure how it could cause repetitive clunking when not in motion. Like I said though, I'm no expert so I may be completely wrong. I plan on taking it in at the end of this week or the beginning of next so we'll see what they have to say.

Oh. I guess I didn't completely read the part where you said it clunks 3 to 5 times within 15 seconds. I just assumed it clunked only once. In that case, I'm really not sure what it is then.

It could be caused by the same thing though. The drive shaft yoke has to be able to slip in and out freely and if it's not greased up, it binds under load and when that load is taken off (like when your engine idle goes down from 1000 to 500 rpms) bind gives out and that's the clunk you hear. Now it could be the case that it's binding and when it give, it gives out in multiple steps and thus the 3 to 5 clunks you hear.

It happens to me when the truck is cold like first thing in the morning. It get the clunk when I notice the gear indicator going from 3 to 1 as your transmission knows you've stopped and its bringing the truck down to first gear. it feels like someone just popped your bumper from the rear and you look up in your rear view mirror to see who hit you.

Yea that's exactly what it feels like but I've only had mine do it once it's in first gear, not shifting from third to first. And like you said it's only when it's cold. I'm also noticing a slight cluck when reversing now which is making me think it has to be the slip yolk. Still seems weird though because when I'm in drive, it only does it when completely stopped.

mine does the same thing. Come to a stop, clunk and then a slight lurch or slip-does it anywhere from 1-5 times at a light.

I took it in for that and they went straight to the transmition. Service mgr says it was the trans trying to downshift after coming to a complete stop. They replaced a part and flashed the computer. It was ok for a couple of weeks but just started doing it again. To me it feels like the brakes are disengauging. I am not convinced that it is the trans. But I am no way a tech guy. Whenever I come to a stop I just wait for it now. I just hope I don't "lurch" into traffic.
Its for sure going back in.

JohnnyC, my 2012 does exactly the same thing as you describe. I have yet to take it in, waiting on the first oil change. Mine only does it at the first stop or second stop, about a mile from home when the engine / trans are still cold.
