The whole "learning transmission" taking that long to learn is a complete line of b.s. "Adaptive" transmissions have been out since the mid 90's. They don't take that long to learn or RE-LEARN your driving habits. Maybe 50-100 miles.

Ford is distributing misinformation. Plain and simple. These transmissions learn constantly. And if anyone does not agree you think they would sell a vehicle to someone with multiple drivers and tell them "hey, yeah you just bought a $45k truck, but ahhh, it's going to drive like complete tihs for the entire time you own it since you'll have multiple drivers". No friggin way.

I wish those guys would read the TSB. You only need a code to change the cats.
The truck does have to exhibit the shudder symptoms to warrant the programming but most would go ahead and do it anyway.
One service rep at my dealer said no to it because of the lack of a code but the service manager read the TSB and told her to book me in for it.
THEY JUST HAVE TO READ IT!!

Default TSB done; shudder still there

I just wanted to add that I finally was able to get the truck into the dealer. They kept it for a couple of days, but "couldn't replicate" the shudder. One misconception the adviser had is that it's under hard acceleration. I told him multiple times it's under light throttle and in a specific speed range.

Anyway, they did the TSB and replaced the cat (per the TSB). My mpg's improved, but the shudder is still there. Unfortunately, now I have a harsh downshift at rolling stops (light is red, slowing down, light turns green, start to accelerate and it feels like the transmission is having a tough time finding a gear, engine revs and slams itself into 2nd again).

The adviser did mention that he has seen a lot of bad O2 sensors on this generation of the F150. His dad has an '11 5.0L and the O2 sensor went bad after a few thousand miles. He was surprised the TSB only called for a cat replacement and not the replacement of the O2 sensor.

This is the second time I've had it in for the shudder, and I have a case number with Ford. Still holding out hope.

Maybe keep it in T/H mode for a couple "brisk" drives?

I got the petcock all installed now but here in the high desert, I didn't see much moisture come out of the intercooler when we put the hole in it. So, I'm thinking I probably won't see much at any given time. I think y'all that live east of the rockys will see much more with your high humidity.
It's an easy install and gives ya an easy way to drain the intercooler. Good luck.

I completely agree, the transmissions are always adjusting to conditions. This BS on give it some time is a stall tatic.

Are at all concerned about the petcock affecting your warranty?

I don't really see how it could. It's no different than adding a K&N or a bug sheild or something. It has nothing to do with any opperation of any vehicle component, even less affect on anything than a K&N filter might be.

Could you take some pics and give an explanation of what and how you did it? Maybe a write up in a new thread? Id like to see how you did this out of curiosity.

I agree that it should have no effect on it. I have heard Ford is super **** about the warranty on the turbocharged engines. I personally think it's a logical idea.
