Wow, it's fixed! I drove it around and did all of the things to get it to misfire/lose power, but it never happens and seems to have power I never knew it had.

You guys just saved me a lot of money. If you lived near Portland, OR, I'd buy you both a beer. Or two. Or three?

How much were the boots down there? They cost me 57.00 but cheap compared to chasing things and throwing parts at it.
I just noticed that the boots were not making a good seal and went after the simplest thing. I had already drilled a hole in the IC and inspected the plugs, that's when I noticed the looseness.

I purchased the Ultima boots for $14.99 each, so definitely worth it considering the Motorcraft coils cost $68 each. Crazy that something that simple can cause such a huge issue.

Adding my two cents... my 2011 5.0L was shuddering a bit, it almost felt like torque converter slip or something of that nature. I have a friend who tunes Fords as his full-time job and is very, very well-versed in the Coyote. His reply when I asked him about the spark plugs being a 100k maintenance item was along the lines of "Ford is a bunch of liars, do them every 50k or it'll run like ****."

I bought Motorcraft plugs (whatever is OEM) per his recommendation. Mine were pretty nasty with the truck at 60k miles. Running much smoother now - I bought it with 47k last December and had honestly forgotten how smooth it ran.

If the plugs alone don't fix it, look at your coils and coil boots. We see this all the time with older BMWs in the racing community - eventually you'll lose a coil or boot due to age. Our trucks are not old enough that I'd think it's a common problem, but they can start to fail and not throw a code necessarily.

Default Not sure on new write up

I traded my 2012 platinum because the shudder got so bad for 2014 ecoboost. I tried plugs, new coils, boots,weep hole, took intercooler off twice and cleaned, catch can, etc.
I'm wondering now that I pretty much ran Kroger gas the entire 100,000 miles which has the min cleaning additives. Everyone refers to carbon build up etc, . I have no other idea why the shuttering but it did not matter the conditions, always got worse the longer the trip, dealer would say nothing is wrong and it only threw code twice. Going to alternate fill ups with top tier gas on the 2014 just to be safe.

This thread helped a lot. My 2011 ecoboost has about 72k miles and has started this loss of power at high speed. I basically have to baby the truck while entering freeway or passing, otherwise will get check engine light flashing, truck shuttering and loss of power..

So I changed the spark plugs and the coil boots (about $70 of parts) and truck is now running like new. Gapped the new spark plugs at 0.030". I tried flooring it on the freeway, things like that and haven't got any problems. I didn't drill the 1/16" hole in the intercooler as I do not want to have a mess on the driveway.. so far so good. I'll report back if the problem reoccurs any time soon..

You didn't want a mess on your driveway? LOL
Your plugs and boots will go until it rains again and your cruisin. Then you'll be back to wondering why you couldn't clean up a little "mess" from your driveway. LOL
