2011+ 55-60mph 5.0 Shuddering and EcoBoost Engine Miss/Loss of Power - Possible Fixes

Boy am I glad this is behind me
I have had this problem. When going to pass engine would stall. Only happened once in a while. Finally it gave check engine light and catback was replaced under warranty. This seemed to have resolved the issue until all of a sudden when accelerating full throttle or near full throttle it would stutter and miss. Finally gave a check engine light after driving this way for about a year or longer. The CEL indicated cylinder 6 misfire. I have researched this thread in the past and have seen all the comments about intercooler moisture and such but my problem turned out to be carbon tracing on the spark plug. I put a new set of motor craft spark plugs gapped at .027 and since then it runs like the day I bought it. Amazing difference. Will light up the tires again. It has been about 6 months or so since the plugs were changed and still no miss or stutter.

Thanks for the heads up, I am going to try the spark plugs but wish I could get more than 34k out of them! I am pretty positive its not moisture since I am in AZ. My milage is not as good as I would expect (especially towing) but after I put 35" tires on it went down. Over all I love the truck, just hope it doesn't try to kill me again.

I am new to his forum, and have read quite a few threads on the 3.5L turbo. I haven't purchased one (to date), but I am serious looking to get one in the next few months. Anyway, it this problem only in the 2011-2013 models, or does it still manifest in the 2014+?

Now if my transmission didn't slam between 1/2 I would love the truck. Yes it has had the program flashed to no avail.[/QUOTE]
I heard of a way to re-program the throttle body sensor that affects shifting..it's worth a try and costs nothing.
1) Turn the key on, but do not start the engine.
2) Slowly press the gas pedal down clear to the floor and release quickly.
3) Turn the key off.
4) Repeat for 3 cycles.
I tried this when mine started getting "bumpy" when down shifting into 2nd, and it did smooth out the shifting again and have not experienced the "bump" from the transmission since. Hope it helps.

This throttle reset you performed has no effect on the shifting. All you did was make the drive by wire system relearn the full travel of the gas pedal.

I bought a 2016 ecoboost f150 after the research I had done... It looks like 11-14 all have the same intercooler and ford never had a fix for those years... Although there were several failed attempts. I bought the 16 because I thought it would be misfire free and I also would not have to change plugs every 20k miles. Wrong... My 16 has misfires and not happy about it.

My 2014 did it for the 1st time in 2 years this weekend. All day heavy rain and very warm. Went to pass Saturday night, slammed the pedal and the truck went nowhere, surged, set the check engine light, finally responded and got around the other car. Not happy. CEL went away after 15 miles of driving.

Yes...of course we all know that throttle demand and response has nothing to do with shifting..I am glad that I did it, since a rough shift has not happened since...but then again those one in a million things do happen.

This happened to mine as well, before the engine light came on I was at a total loss.
Ended up being all 6 spark plugs where cracked in mine. Had them replaced and that went away
