Double ditto that!!! Sold my 2011 over a year ago. Had all the problems like everyone else. I had 90k on it so it was a no brainer to dump it. Bought a new Taurus 3.5 NA with AWD. Its the only decent Ford car you can buy that's not an ecoboost.
If they haven't found a fix in 4 years, they wont........

What, if anyone really knows, is the actual problem with the EB engines? I see it noted also for the 5.0.
I have an 11 SCREW FX4 with the 5.0 and have never had an issue since Day 1, other than having oil from a K&N filter get on the MAF sensor. This caused a starting problem, but K&N stood behind their products and reimbursed me for the dealer service (changing plugs, cleaning MAFS and new stock filter).
I see lots of write-ups about the stumbling issue, but the causes seem to vary. I'd really like to know, because I'm considering buying a 2016 (waiting until the new design has break-in) to replace my 2011. Any insight is appreciated.

Code 0304 and misfiring cylinder #4. Swapped coil and plug from 1 & 4, took it on highway and it fouled again. Back in to check. Likely coil or faulty plug, not moisture and turbo related which is what I was worried about. After coil or plug, should run great again. 2011 King Ranch with 211,000km and counting.

They found a bad #6 coil and carbon tracked plug when it started missing at 57K. I had them change all the plugs while they were at it and it's been running great since then. I think Ford either has to bump up the service interval on the plugs or pick better materials. All things considered this truck is still much better than the Dodge it replaced and I'll be trading it in on a new F150 in the next year or so. I just have to decide between the 3.5 Eco or the new 2.7 - the two piece block on the 2.7 has me a little concerned for future problems - the 3.5 is a known quantity.

Question Coil Pack / Cylinder issue causing loss of power / Shudder

I own a 2011 ecoboost f-150 I bought at Five Star Ford of Plano. At about 40,000 i started experiencing shudder and loss of power. Took it to them and they fixed the issue, said it was transmission related and there was a TSB on it. Flashed the computer and did some other things. Now, at 53,000 I experienced bad shudders on a clear day in Dallas yesterday. Check engine light flashed and the Air Conditioning turned hot. Had to drive home so took it easy on the throttle. took it in today and it's REAL expensive to replace the 1st cylinder coil and boot? and they also said a coolant hose had broken they had to reload the coolant and replace the hose. Asked about how soon I can expect to replace the other cylinder coils and he said it was a matter of time. ( I am not as knowledgeable as many on this site about engine mechanics / electronics). Starting to loose faith in the 2011 ecoboost platform. Don't know whether to sell. I hate to...Anybody know of a local mechanic in north TX who's qualified to work on these I'll listen!

There is a TSB for spark plug tracking issues. My 2011 has had plug changes every 50k because the 3.5 seems to eat up gaps. I had changed the plugs recently and a short time later had miss fire code #6. I switched out coils from 3 to 6 and the issue persisted on #6. Not the coil, not the plug. Turned out to be the lower coil boots, which are serviceable apart from the coil, and identified in the TSB. I doubt you required the coil itself. If a plug tracks due to a bad coil boot, you will see a small black fire line witnessed to the insulator of the plug down to the base. This is the line of fire from the coil past the internals of the plug to ground producing the missfire. It becomes the easiest patch for the spark to follow, so replace the plug and the coil boots. This fixed my truck.
Best of Luck

Brittany/Crystal/etc. - I *finally* dropped my truck off today at the local dealership (Sakelaris Ford in Rolla, MO). I referred to it back on page 304 - but since then my wife has had some health issues and I've been busier than a one legged man in a buttkicking contest.

In any event, I dropped it off for the following issues:

- buzzing noise when going from D to P or P to D - usually after driving at moderate speed for a few minutes and then stopping
- some seriously hard shifts going from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th
- and an increasingly squeaky driver's seat (on the left hand side).

Will post later. Right now I get to go enjoy this sweet Ford Focus loaner. (And yes, that is sarcasm. LOL)

I suggest getting an upcoming appointment scheduled with your local dealer for as soon as possible, currynichols. Feel free to use this to get started. Then, please send me a private message with your full name, VIN, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number. I'll get the ball rolling right away.

Thanks for keeping me posted, Kung! I'm glad to hear that you were able to get your truck in to the dealer, and I hope your wife's feeling better. What's the current mileage on the truck? I'll look into some additional options.

I don't know exact mileage since it's at the dealer (LOL) but it's just short of 30K - I think something like 29.6K.

Update - they're performing the TSB for the buzzing (valve separator plate) and are 'tearing apart' the seat (hopefully not literally LOL) to fix the squeak. The tech will also be looking at the weird shifting. So thus far, I'm satisfied; will update once I have the truck back.

Thanks for clarifying, Kung! Getting this escalated to the regional customer service manager for your area is also an option. If interested, please send a private message my way with your full name, VIN, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number.

Please keep me posted!
