I'm not sure about your higher speed problems, but I know my idle problem was due to retarded ignition timing. On idle, it would idle extremely rough and buck/hesitate/miss until it warmed up. I took it to the dealership and they told me it was bad gas (drained about half my tank) and returned it to me. Problem still existed and I was out about $50 in gas. From my experience of tuning engines, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I hooked up my ELM-327 Bluetooth adapter to the OBD2 port, connected to it via the Torque app on my phone and started it up. I noticed that Ford has the ECU programmed to retard ignition 9* at start-up!!!! I couldn't believe it. I asked around why in the world they would do that and someone suggested it was to warm the cats up quicker so the catalyst process would start quicker. Terrible idea, but w/e. In my video below, you can see the ignition timing was retarded 9* at start-up which was causing my bucking/hesitation/missing problems. No engine can/should idle at -9* ignition timing.

Crystal - my apologies for not ever updating you last time.

I work near St. Robert, MO, even though I bought my truck in Rolla, MO. So I took it to Sellers Sexton Ford back in July to have them look at the 'vibrating bed' issue and the 'shuddering' issue.

Of course they 'couldn't replicate.' Rather than argue with them, I chose to wait until now, when I finally have time to devote to it.

I'm bringing my truck to Sakelaris Ford on Friday to have the following done:

- oil change
- inspection for the 'shuddering' issue (where it shudders in 6th gear on a slide grade)
- inspection for a squeaky driver's seat

I'll let you know what I find.

Just updating .... Ford quickly dismissed that the issue discussed here was my problem saying that this only applies to ecoboost 2011's and not the fuelflex 2011 like mine. Apparently my prob was an oxygen sensor causing multiple missfires on cyl 1&2. There was a TSB issued for this but it took them 8 hrs to determine this as the cause. Now with that said I have to admit they were good about it and only charged 2hrs labour .... oxygen sensor in on the deal though still ran me $450 total. At least it's purrring again!

Brittany here; I'm the new Ford customer service representative here on the forum. It's a pleasure to meet you! Bringing your truck in for these concerns is the best first step, and I suggest having a technician ride with you for the shuddering concern. Please keep me posted with any updates; I'll be on the lookout!

Thanks for the update, wolfcreek. I'm glad to hear that the dealership was able to diagnose and repair your truck and that it's up and running again. If you'd like, I'll document some feedback. All I'll need to get started on that is a private message with your full name, best daytime contact number, and servicing dealership.

Have a great day!

Brittany

Default 3.7 engine

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone was having this problem with the 3.7 engine. I noticed a vibration around 55-60. At first I thought it was a balance issue with the tires but know I'm not sure if this is it. My truck is a 14 supercab stx 4x4.

Default 5.0 Misfire Fix

First time to the post, but thanks to all for the info. Truck has 82,000 Kms on it. Took to the dealer and they diagnosed spark plugs (gap was .60) and coil pack on #4. They wanted 600 to replace all, but replaced myself (paid them for diagnoses). Does anyone know if after changing plugs that they would have to clear the codes? Idle is better and highway driving seems better, but still feel like there is a hesitation there....

I did not get in to see them this week; I had a root canal that turned into the WORST infection in my jaw/tooth that I've ever had, and am only just now recovering from it. I plan on having them look @ it this week.

Did you check the gaps of the new spark plugs? I was having the misfire/stumble issue at random and when I checked the gaps, they were all over the place. I regapped them to .045 and the issue went away. I then regapped them to .050 as that's the new spec for the 13-14 trucks and the issue seems to have come back. I plan to gap them again at .045 and leave it alone. My truck is a 14 5.0 with ~3k mi.

Yeah, I regapped all the new plugs to .045 before installing... Still having the issue...

False alarm, the truck seems to be stuttering/misfiring at random again. I plan to data-log for misfires/issues and tune the truck with 5*'s 87 perf/tow tune in a couple days and see what happens.
