Any updates on this issue?? Im just getting back home and about to get a appt. at another dealer.

My '13, 5.0, 12,xxx miles has been in the shop almost 2 weeks. They replaced the #6 plug and coil because it had a "history" of a miss on #6. I've driven with multiple techs, the trans guy says its performance and the shop manager says transmission. I rode with the manager as we watched the misfire monitor, I had no idea what I was looking at but all the cylinders seemed the same.

I've had the issue for the 10,000 miles I've had the truck and I'm convinced its worse now. I do not need to be going up a hill or even lug the truck very hard. Ford just called back and said "we just drove a brand new truck and its doing the same thing so you're going to need to come get yours while we figure it out"


This means I'll never hear back, I've been a tech and worked in a few shops, I know how the game is played and they're just dancing around it. My commute consists of mainly 55-60 mph and lots of hills so every.single.day I'm driven absolutely crazy by the stupid truck.


I've made a list of things I've read here and on another site over the last 20 minutes and I'm going to call him on it. Option B is to go pick the truck up tomorrow, rent a damn trailer and go drive it then so they can't ignore the problem since it gets exponentially worse.


I obviously can't catch up on 300 pages, is there any new information I'm missing?

I've got:
- TSB 13-8-10
- Spark plug gap/replacement
- Misfire neutral profile correction
- I even saw something about "Failing component : auto trans: Control Module (tcm/pcm)

I'll tell em to come here and read the 300 pages and figure it out if I have to.

While researching I came across this thread. Honestly, I haven't read all 300+ pages so perhaps this has been answered. If so, I apologize for the duplication.

While on a round trip run to Texas from Florida in my 2012 FX4 I ran into a severe rain storm. During the storm my truck, on cruise control at about 65-70, momentarily loss power...but just momentarily. I thought I imagined it. A few minutes later it repeated itself. Both times the cruise control kicked out but the engine resumed immediately. I didn't give it another thought. We outran the rain in about 10 minutes and therefore blew it off.

In Texas, we loaded a 800 pound motorcycle in the truck bed for the return. Almost immediately upon departure and onto a freeway, the truck acted as though it had trouble shifting and adjusting to the weight, the lurching and shuddering lasted until around 45 mph when it suddenly smoothed out and appeared to resolve itself. While at highway speed, 60-70 mph, there was no repeat of the incident. Yet, each time we stopped for an exit, food, fuel, ect, we went through the same symptoms as described above. Once back in Florida, with the load out of the rear, we couldn't duplicate the symptoms. That sucked, and a ford service writer acted as though I was nuts when two of us described the incident. I didn't leave the truck for service as a result.

From the little research we've done, it appears that there are two (2) separate things here. One the shuddering and missing in rain, which appears to have a fix thru a TSB, and the other the "under load" issue which either has a TSB associated with a transmission issue, a ECM reflash resolution, or not. . .depending on which thread you read.

Can you or someone else knowledgeable on this tell me what to tell the tech to look for when this is taken in for service? Like everyone else, knowing, at least having an idea of the common solution, can make the difference of being in service for days, or pointing them in the right direction.

I guess the best thing is to run through these 300 pages or so and see what I can come up with.

I just saw this, I appreciate the help and I'll get you that info in a PM tomorrow.

The service writer said "my tech took me for a ride in a brand new truck doing the same thing..."

They had my pick my truck up and said they'd be in touch soon. This was the previous Friday. I called this Thursday or Friday, he said he hasn't heard anything from the shop and wasn't sure if they had looked into it.

I really hope this gets resolved soon, I remember the problem being worse with a trailer. I'm moving to Colorado in 2 weeks and I'd prefer a worry free 1000 mile trip....

I just recently had my 12 screw in for the same shuddering issue. The first time they told me here was nothing wrong. I came here and found a few things. I called them back to schedule another app. I told them about the 13-8-10 and got the truck In the next day. They called me and told me that was only for the eco boost not the 5.0. Also they couldn't find anything wrong. When I went in I had the service manage ride with me and showed him what it was doing. He just told me that is normal the truck wanted to shift to give it more gas. Well that's all fine and dandy if in the interstate but for city driving you just can't do that. I'm very frustrated with this. Any advice would be appreciated.
