Question for anyone who has installed a CAI. Did you have the shudder before you installed the CAI? If you did, has the CAI improved/worsened the shudder?

So dropped truck off this morning for shudder issue. Had the tech drive with me and he was the first to notice it. In some of the post I have read some of you are having power issues. I have not had this yet but what I do have is a vibration that turns into a shudder, it will go away and then start all over. Tech told me they have had issues with how the tires are mounted(not sure I buy it). Made sure he wrote it up correctly on the service write up incase thus gets dragged out.

Not really what this thread is about, there are tons of different issues causing a vibration in the truck, such as drive shaft, tires, etc. Whats being discussed here is very noticeably different than just a vibration/shaking of the truck. It is much like a misfire for many of us. Just an FYI. You can find discussion about the drive shaft/tires by doing a search on here.

Correct ... engine misfire/miss ...coupled with complete loss of power/fall-on-face issue for many.

This thread really should have been titled "Ecoboost Engine Miss/Loss of Power" or something along hose lines. Many see "Shudder" and think it's about vibrations (tires/wheels, driveline, etc.) as you mentioned.

So it's starting to get cool in Oregon but hasn't rained yet, go figure. Won't be long to see if the $1.00 plastic deflector plate on the intercooler works ... at least it bought Ford 6 more months of not fixing their trucks.

Actually this thread was started by a 5.0 owner and wasn't intended to be Eco exclusive. It's confusing with the several possible causes and how we think we understand the shudder descriptions. I agree that most of this thread is about the EcoBoost shudder though, since it is more prominent.

Excellent dealer trade in was 33k which was the highest value on kbb. They gave me 30.5k, but I picked up the super duty for 11k below sticker. It all comes out in the wash and i have absolutely no regrets

Yes, before and after. But I removed it anyway because on my 2nd service visit they tried to blame ALL my problems on the CAI. Since the CAI obviously wasn't "helping" and Ford was trying to blame everything on the CAI I figured I might as well get rid of it, so I did.

No, they do not solve the problem of the shudder. Not sure about the complete power loss because I have only had that happen once. The deflector plate and computer updates were installed in my truck last Tuesday. Had a chance to drive it a bit over the weekend and there was absolutly no change at all.

At this point, I really don't care. The key for me is that this was another attempt to fix my truck that didn't work. Scanned and emailed the invoice to my lawyer with the "didn't work" report, so I am happy either way. My arbitration hearing is set for Feb 22, 2013 in Philadelphia. That should give them at least one more attempt to come up with another fix.
