I've run into this problem a few times on other vehicles, both turbo and NA with various mods, it is nothing new nor specific to the Ecoboost. Ford is probably aware of this but until they nail down the exact source of the issue, there is no point in throwing more (expensive) parts and labour at the problem until the supply chain/engineering issue is resolved.

My problems aren't as severe as others appear to be, although I will soon be changing out my plugs, probably to an NGK dual fine element iridium type and gapping them somewhere around .034"

The eventual permanent fix for this from Ford may be a change to the plug specs, an upgrade to the ignition coils, or both. If you have some time and money to throw around, maybe someone could experiment with these changes and report back!
You mean its not the fuel?

The crappy fuel is ADDING to the problem. The recommendation I made earlier was to help alleviate the symptoms, not eliminate the problem. Had I been running the same fuel as you, I probably would have had the same severe symptoms as you.

Geez man, are you more interested in fixing your problem or proving me wrong...

If you pull your plugs, please post pics of the electrodes.

While condensation is definitely contributing to some of the issues, I think it is exposing the weak ignition system. That explains why some people in the same area driving at the same time don't have any issues while their neighbor does. Maybe that neighbor has a borderline coil and a variety of plug gaps so the moisture added to those issues = 3 strikes.
If Ford is indeed redesigning the IC, that will eliminate one of the causes. It will then be easier to isolate the remaining weaknesses if needed.
This also explains why 20% of the posts in the shudder data base thread are from engines other than the 3.5. Eliminate moisture and many of the shudder issues go away but you still have a fair or average ignition system that could cause the same symptoms, just not as likely to happen.

The ignition system is far more likely the culprit than moisture introduced anywhere in the system. You can almost submerge the intake piping in water and the engine will, although sputtering and likely close to stalling, will still manage to run. The chance of the minute amount of moisture introduced from the intercooler/turbos ALONE causing THIS severe of a problem is highly unlikely.

EDIT: I just reread this as I was stone tired the first time, you pretty much nailed it.

If its highly unlikely then why is ford focused on a new intercooler and different tube than worrying about the ignition system? I agree with the plugs being off gap causing the miss but the loss of power is caused by ingesting of to much water at one time. Call ford customer care they will tell you this straight on the phone.

Proving you wrong since you came on here bashing a bunch of us in your first posts

Seriously man, relax. You came on here not believing us at all...now you have the issue and you're attitude completely changed. I hope you get yours resolved as much as I hope to get mine resolved.

Cost. The ignition system (plugs/coils) are common standardized parts now (GOOD). Look up the F150 spark plug nightmare and you'll understand why Ford is staying away from the ignition system.

Don't believe everything the Level 1 "customer care" phone jockies are telling you. 99% of the public have no idea how things actually work so they tell you just enough of the problem to make you go away while the engineers work on the problem. Apple's whole business model works because of this (you know, because iPhones and iPad's run on unicorns and pixie dust.)

Did the mechanics/engineers who looked at the severely affected trucks even bother to check the plugs?

*** of U and ME.....

My plugs are on order. Once they're in, should take almost no time at all to verify whether they've had any effect on the symptoms or not.

Since there seem to be quite a number of people having success with regapping their plugs, if you are so mechanically inclined you may want to just go ahead and do this yourself.

$60 and an hour of your time vs a lengthy, drawn-out frivolous lawsuit?

I found if I put a chevy bow-tie on the grille my truck Ecoboost now runs fine. This is my first Ford ...and I buy a lemon. My timing has always sucked ...
