My understanding is they will hook up the truck and if no codes were recorded for the issue they will just do a PCM flash and update the software, which IMO is a good thing and it's right in my price range of FREE.

Has anyone heard of this downshifting problem actually happening ? I try to keep up on this forum as well as a couple others but haven't heard a thing about this actually happening. Seems like if it were a widespread problem it would have been all over the forums ? Or is this recall out just to reflash our computers . I hope it runs the same when they are done.

I've had four instances of it happening to my 2011 F-150. What happens to me is that the truck will suddenly get two or three really hard jerks and the speedometer and RPMs will bounce for a second or two then everything goes back to normal. I've also watched the gear slide all the way down and back up again when it happens. The jerking is so hard that the first time it happened I honestly believed someone had hit my truck.
The first time I took it in (which was a month ago) they pulled a service bulletin and greased the slip yoke. It did it again about 5 days ago and I took it back in. This time they said they could find nothing wrong with the truck and there was nothing they could do until they could replicate and experience the issue themselves.
Needless to say, this recall notice comes out and is eerily similar to what I'm experiencing. I'm calling my dealership back today to see what they can do because this problem is significant enough that I'm concerned for the safety of my pregnant wife. I actually won't drive the truck right now if I know she's going to be with me at the time.

It sounds like you actually have a bad sensor, but have never thrown a code? My guess is they will tell you to wait for the software update. I can't see them replacing the sensor without the code.

No, they told me there were no codes at all. I then took it out and drove it with a technician to see if my driving style would cause it and of course it ran smooth as butter. I'm pretty torn over what to do as I love my truck (this is my third F-150) but also have to consider the safety of my family and can't afford to wait until a fix rolls out later this year.
