To this point there is a total of 94 trucks submitted.
I will be meeting with a field service engineer from Ford this afternoon. I will be hand delivering a print out of this thread to him along with a letter and summary which I will include here. Please keep posting your vehicles here as applicable as Ford monitors this forum.
Thank you to everyone for their cooperation.
Over an approximate 2 month period I conducted a voluntary survey via a popular Ford F-150 web forum; www.f150forum.com in order to obtain data related to a shudder/vibration felt at highway speeds in 2011/2012 Ford F-150 trucks. The purpose of this survey is to collect and organize the data for submission to Ford in hopes of it providing a clear picture of the vehicles affected by this issue. This information will be submitted to an engineer and will hopefully provide some useful insight into the powertrains and vehicles affected thus enabling them to find a solution to this prevalent issue amongst 2011/2012 F-150 trucks.
The voluntary survey was conducted over a 2 month period during which 94 people submitted information regarding their trucks. All of the trucks included in this database exhibit a shudder/vibration at highway speeds.
A few hallmarks of this problem are;
o Most prevalent traveling approximately 55 MPH in 6th gear
o Traveling in wet conditions worsens the problem
§ Rainy conditions, wet roads
§ High humidity levels
§ Drastic temperature changes while driving
o Ascending a steady hill in 6th gear between 1,500 – 1,750 RPM
o Lengthy trips
I used a common template that gathered information most pertinent to pin pointing an exact root cause of the problem. The template used is as follows:
Model Year
Engine
Wheelbase
4x4 or 4x2
Trim Package
Assembly plant
Build date
Model year:
· 2011: 83/94; 88%
· 2012: 11/94; 12%
*Important note; At least 1 or more trucks were noted to exhibit this issue with build dates in every month from 1/2011 – 1/2012.
Engine:
· EcoBoost: 84/94; 89%
· 5.0L: 9/94; 1%
· 6.2L: 1/94; .01%
Wheelbase:
· 145”: 66/94; 70%
· 157”: 28/94; 30%
4x4 or 4x2:
· 4x4: 86/94; 91%
· 4x2: 7/94; .07%
· AWD: 1/94; .01%
Trim pkg:
· The following trim levels were affected: XLT, XTR, Lariat, Lariat Limited, FX2, FX4, Platinum
Assembly plant:
· Dearborn: 79/94; 84%
· Kansas City: 15/94; 15%
Summary: The poll conducted shows a few trends. The most obvious being this issue plagues the EcoBoost engine the most. Clearly the problem has persisted throughout the entire model year of 2011 and is continuing through 2012. I will include a copy of the entire list of vehicles that participated so that if you wish you may further analyze the vehicles affected. It is also available online at the F150forum website. To date there has been one “fix” for this issue, TSB: 12-2-10 which for some resulted in a temporary resolve of the shudder, only to return after a few hundred miles. Others, including myself noted no improvement/change in the shudder and are still affected by it after the re-flash. Again, the purpose of this is to cooperate with Ford and their engineering department to come up with a solution to this issue. We are all loyal Ford owners/enthusiasts and wish only for the safe and enjoyable operation of our trucks and the continued success of Ford Motor Company.
If you have any questions, comments or require any further clarification on anything included here, please do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience, I will include my contact information below. Lastly I genuinely thank you for looking over this information and considering it in your work.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to deal with this in such a professional and detailed manner. Hopefully this is another step towards resolving this issue.
