Sub'ed.

I've been wanting to swap out mirrors on my '13 FX4, I have the standard mirrors with the reflector, no heat and no turn signal.

So, being that the FX4's come with the rear window defroster (since I have the one-piece rear window), should be plug and play with a new set of mirrors, correct?

In theory, yes. I believe people with trucks 11 and up have done this mod, but i am not positive. I do know that people who go from standard mirrors to tow mirrors, it all works plug n play. As long as you go OEM, people with aftermarket mirrors on here, have had trouble with the heat not working.

So you say people that go from standard mirrors to the tow mirrors it's just plug and play? I have a 2013 xlt with standard mirrors and would like to swap out for tow mirrors. Do OEM tow mirrors come with a heated option? Or are they all heated?

Yes, swapping out your standard XLT mirrors for tow mirrors should be PnP. Pull door panel, 3 nuts and a harness per.

You will need a new climate controller that has a rear defrost button on it. If you already have it then it is plug and play

This reveals the 4 6mm(I believe) screws on either side of the storage box. Down low near the cup holders

Next, is the rubber pad up where the clock is

Attachment 86524

There are 2 screws of the same size there as well

The entire stereo/climate control unit should now pull straight out. Unplug all wiring harnesses to get to this point. You will need a T20(I think) torx bit(star point) to remove the climate control unit.

Attachment 86526

Then plug everything back in, make sure it works before you reinstall everything.

Then reverse everything to reinstall.

You should have heated mirrors now!!! Mine works great. This might not work with all models. As I've been reading that 2011 and up models do not hve all the wiring pre installed.

As an added bonus my ext temp also now works. I put the sensor in awhile ago, and couldn't get it t work. Guess it was all in the climate control!!!

Attachment 86529

Hope this all helps!!!
I also have a 2010 F150 STX, couple things differant for some reason, After I pulled the panels next to the electronics cluster, I was not able to remove entirely the one on the right side as the airbag cover would not raise enough to allow it to release, but I was able to raise it enough to get the socket/wrench in to undo it. My cluster mounting bracket only had 2 - 7mm screws on the side, rather than down low they were more along side the ***** and then the 2 on the top.

The part #'s for the the regular one, as in the one I removed, is AL3419980-AF; for the one with heated rear window/mirrors is AL3419980-CF both mfg in 2009 in Mexico.
Beware of note attached: Scrap if Dropped.

My outside temp sensor is also working now. I did as you did and put the sensor in a month ago in anticapation of this day. Have not installed the mirrors yet.

I bought 2 pairs of heated mirrors and installed them but I need to buy another climate controller with defrost button NOT the mirrors button switch ( 2010 I guess ) , when I installed the one with mirrors switch icon , it act weird ( the ac was not working , the led inside the controller would not turn off but the blinkers and the mirrors were heating , so I returned that back and get one for 2013 with defrost button instead of mirror switch icon
