2010 STX mirror swap write up. With heated mirrors!!!
Lots of people with trim levels that do not have heated mirrors are always asking if they can swap out their standard power adjust mirrors for ones with heat. I just did this on my truck, and proved it can be done.
You will need the new mirrors, obviously. Mine were the standard power adjust. I bought a pair of power adjust mirrors with defrost and blinkers off of another member of this site.
And you will need(THIS IS IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO USE THE DEFROST OPTION) a new climate control, with the defrost button. This is the pic of mine installed.(I forgt to get a pic before I put it in, lol)
Door panel removal
1st there are 2 6 mm screws at the bottom of the door
Next in the handle there is a plug. Remove it(use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool) to reveal an 8mm screw.
Now the tricky part. You will need some sort of hook tool to remove the black trim piece behind the door handle itself like this. To reveal another 8mm screw.
Then pull UP!!! NOT OUT! This is important, because if you pull the panel towards you, you will snap all of the clips that hold it into place.
I left everything else attached. You can unplug all the wiring harnsses and stuff. I didn't need(want) to. But if you do. The door handle latch pull will come out easy. Just look on the back of the panel, you will see 2 little clips holing the handle in. You can push them with your fingers. Then you can feed the handle assembly through the panel.
Next is the mirror nuts. They are 11mm. YOU MAY WANT SOMEONE ON THE OUT SIDE TO HOLD THE MIRROR SO IT DOESN'T FALL, AND GOUGE THE CRAP OUT OF YOUR DOOR!!!! Also unplug the wiring
Remove mirror and replace with new one.
Reverse procedure to reinstall, its the same for both sides. At this point, your mirrors should work, with blinkers and power adjust.
In the next post(because this is so big) I'll write up how to swap out the climate control

Climate control swap
1st pull out the side trim on either side of your stereo/climate control. I used my hands to do this. I didn't want to usea trim tool.
This reveals the 4 6mm(I believe) screws on either side of the storage box. Down low near the cup holders
Next, is the rubber pad up where the clock is
There are 2 screws of the same size there as well
The entire stereo/climate control unit should now pull straight out. Unplug all wiring harnesses to get to this point. You will need a T20(I think) torx bit(star point) to remove the climate control unit.
Then plug everything back in, make sure it works before you reinstall everything.
Then reverse everything to reinstall.
You should have heated mirrors now!!! Mine works great. This might not work with all models. As I've been reading that 2011 and up models do not hve all the wiring pre installed.
As an added bonus my ext temp also now works. I put the sensor in awhile ago, and couldn't get it t work. Guess it was all in the climate control!!!
Hope this all helps!!!

Sweet only thing in confused on it when u say pull cluster off and use torx bit to remove climate panel. Then what?? Did u have to run wires from mirror to the climate panel or when u pulled the cluster off do u just plug something that's already there in? And just add the defrost button? Not sure what step is between ur pic of u unscrewing the climate panel and saying to re install in reverse. Hope this makes sense.

Ok, 1st thing...this was all plug and play!!! No added wires!!! Second of all I ordered a completely different climate control unit. I did not add the button. You are swapping your old one for a unit with the defrost button.
Here is a pic of my old unit after I removed it, so it doesn't have the defrost button. But this is what you are swapping out.
I hope this all makes sense

Where did u get the sensor and where does it go?
