The other week the plastic molding broke off the tailgate step also breaking the plastic hinge piece that the molding glues to. Took it to dealer thinking that surely this was a defect and they would replace under Warranty. They took a bunch of pictures and said they would send off to ford and get back with me. Today I was told that it's not covered because they haven't seen this issue on other vehicles which I find hard to believe because it's a flimsy piece of plastic. Is there anything else I can do or am I stuck?

Seems a little odd that Ford's bumper to bumper warranty wouldn't cover that, unless you're out of that warranty. I'd say try a different dealer or contact FordService on here and see if they can help.

Find another dealer or contact one of the reps on here. That is bs they won't cover with that few of miles.

The dealer gave me the impression that ford was in the driver seat on this not them. Would another dealer be any different?

Probably not. Unless the new dealer goes to bat for you, and argues that it should be repaired.

Seems to me that they would have to prove there was some sort of abuse. A defect is a defect, does not seem like there would have to be a mass of folks have this problem to own up to it and replace it for you. But that's just me, and I did not stay in a Holiday Inn last night..........

Isn't that really the purpose of a bumper to bumper warranty though? This isn't a normal wear and tear item, it's obviously a defect. I'd get in contact with one of the reps on here before trying another dealer. Unless your dealer is just blowing smoke up your *** about Ford being in the driver seat, then try a different dealer.

I'll play devils advocate, that piece can get hung up when sliding things in and out and also if you use the step and slide your foot off verses stepping off. It sucks but you also have to prove it's a defect and NOT wear and tear.

I will say you are the first person that I've seen on here have that problem.
