HEy folks, I'm looking for a roof rack to carry my kayaks and am wanting something that is permanently installed (not the type that clap to the door moldings). Is anyone aware of how one might go about this sort of thing? Thanks!

To get away from the temporary clip on style, you'll have to install rails. Not many options, but look up Yakima tracks. It's a "one size fits most" rail that you would have to bolt through your roof, then it will accept any Yakima #1 tower. From there you can build upon with whatever cross-bar or carrier accessory you need.

^ this. I just put the tracks on my bed caps to handle bikes and a skybox. Pretty sure I could handle yaks with that setup if I needed to since the towers can be moved around the racks. Just another option to consider. This is what I did: http://www.orsracksdirect.com/2012-f...ike-racks.html.

Ok thanks. My kayaks are 14' so they wouldn't work with bed setup. Need something up top.

The tracks I mentioned above are pretty much universal and can be mounted on the roof if you're prepared to drill.
