2010 Rebates
I am currently in the market for a new truck and I’m looking at the F150 or Dodge Ram. I also like the Silverado, but they seem to be a little overpriced. Right now I can get about $4k in rebates on the F150 but most of those expire on Jan 4th. I wasn’t planning to buy anything until February or March. Does anyone know if we will see the same types of Rebates in Q1 of 2010 or should I pull the trigger this week? When is the best time to buy a new vehicle?

there are always rebates on ford trucks, there will always be some promotion to get you to buy a ford. and i assume you mean your palnning on buying one off the lot, no special order?

Is the $4,000 in rebates only if you take Ford financing? I only see $3,000 online.
I find the ford incentive system confusing. When we bought an 09 SCREW this summer there was $1,000 more in incentives than I found online. Now I'm in the market for a new truck since GM is offering $6,000 in incentives on an 09. I'd jump on a 2010 XLT for $4,000 off if I find one with the right options.

I just noticed the $6k in rebates on an 09 Silverado. When I was at the dealer 2 weeks ago it was only about $4k. I am seriously considering a Chevy truck now. When I price out all trucks on Edmunds.com it seems like you get the least off on a Chevy. Wonder why that is?

The normal rebate is $4,000 but there is an extra $2,000 if it's been on the lot for x numer of days. 60 days possibly? it goes my VIN number so it's not straight forward whether or not the truck is eligible for the extra $2k unless the dealer tells you so that's kind of a bad deal.

Don't forget about the federal tax credit available this year for new vehicles purchased in 2009.
You can take the amount of the sales tax you paid on a new vehicle as tax credit (reduction of income) with needing to itemize deductions. There is a special calculation if you are lucky enough to live in a state that doesn't collect a sales tax so it's still a win for you.
This credit also applies to second and third new vehicle purchases in 2009 as long as each vehicle is new and individually falls under the cap of $49,500 purchase price. There is an income restriction for this; 125,000 for individual and $250,000 for joint filer.

Also, I would buy now, they will likely drop to about 2500 from now until spring regarding rebates.
