2010 F150 Wrench icon on dash
Hi have a 2010 f150 with a 4.6l 3v and 6r80 trans. Lately the wrench icon has been appearing on my dash (about 3 times a week) signaling the "limp home" mode. During my lunch break I dropped it off at a ford stealership to have them check it out and theyre telling me I have a bad park neautral position switch which apparently is located deep in the tranny, and they want $1600 to replace it. That was the quickest "hell no" ive ever said. They said if I keep driving it I will grenade my tranny because the truck wont know what gear to start out in when accelerating from a stop. About 6 weeks have gone by with the light randomly coming on and the truck has ran and drove perfect every time.
So....I guess my question is, is the stealership full of ****? And if so, has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? Ive read around that people are solving it due to bad batteries and alternators, and sometimes throttle body problems but idk. I'm frustrated to say the least cuz ive already dropped 10,000 in repairs (2 engines) and ive only owned it for 11 months..... Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In my 2010 my wrench came on also.. After a lot of googling I found the most common was either throttle body needed cleaning or accelerator pedal assembly. Cleaned throttle body problem persisted. Put in a new accelerator pedal assembly and all better. They are not cheap 408 from local dealership (no thank you). 159 from Napa but the one they had listed did not work. Found one on tasca parts online 218 minus 25 promo code with shipping I was into it for 200. Good luck! Not sure if this is issue with yours but A lot cheaper than a couple grand.

before you throw money at it, you may want to check the code that actually triggered "da wrench", and act accordingly... the wrench can pop up for many different reasons!

The dealership read the code and that's what they told me. I just fail to believe they're telling me the truth

Like the OP said, get an actual code and report back.
A second opinion might be worth considering.
I lost a park neutral switch on a 94 jeep I had years ago(it was buried inside tranny according to factory manual which I had).
It supplied a ground to the 4 contact starter relay; so truck would not start.
I was able to supply a jumper ground and keep, truck on the road for two more years.
Vehicles are wired differently now, they may be telling the truth.
