Unhappy 2010 F150 Transmission Problem

Experienced a Transmission problem with my 2010 F150 XLT supercab with only 7,200 miles. The transmission acts like it is in neutral when it is cold and the transmission selector is on "3". When starting from a dead stop on a hill, I shifted the transmission selector into "3" and pushed down on the accelerator, instead of going forward, my truck began rolling backwards no matter how much gas I gave it. I shifted the vehicle into "D" and the truck went up the hill without a problem. I also tried it with the transmission selector in "1" or "2" and the transmission worked fine. I also noticed that after the truck sits and the weather is cold, starting out in "3" there is a shuddering that is almost like the vehicle is starting from a higher gear.
I took the truck to the dealer and they were not able to duplicate the problem on my truck. Unfortunately there are no hills close to the dealership, so by the time they reached a hill the truck was warmed up. However they were able to partially duplicate the problem on another customers' 2010 F150 XLT that was sitting on a slight slope in their driveway. The Service advisor shifted into "3" and he noticed a lack of forward motion when pressing down on the accelerator. He informed me that Ford Engineers are reviewing this issue and hopefully will come up with a solution. Has anyone else experience this issue?

Doh.... What they said......Ever drive a stick shift? Hop in a manual transmissioned vehicle, push the clutch in and from a complete stand still put it in third gear, then come off the clutch and stomp on the gas....well that is what you are going to get, not much power. We are talking about moving a 5000+ vehicle here.

Don't worry.....I by accident shifted into third while taking off and experienced this hessitation too in my truck........, just didn't do it on a hill.

Perhaps the OP just doesn't realize that the F150 is a bit different than other automatic transmissions in that selecting 3 locks it in 3rd gear and 3rd gear only. In most other vehicles, setting it to 3 just sets the highest gear but still allows the tranny to use the lower ones.

I found this a bit confusing myself when I first got my truck.

I would say the OP is used to a older shifter appearance. My old truck selector had a D 3 2 1. "D" was for overdrive and 3 was for towing without overdrive. It would shift as normal but just would not kick into overdrive. As stated the new vehicle with 6 speed trannies, tow/haul buttons etc are unlike the old styles. Just a learning curve maybe for the OP. I used to always drive in 3 during winter weather to help with braking.

I learned something from this post because I too have a 2010 and didn't realize that 3 on the shifter meant locked into 3 and not 1-2-3 and no higher!

Call me stupid too if you want, I don't care....but nice to know now why it feels so weird to start in that setting!

Now, why the hell is the truck designed this way, why have a setting that locks it in 3, is it a precursor to the new trucks with the shifter button to manually change gears and we're supposed to use 1, then go to 2, then to 3?

I just don't get why you have a setting that is locked in 3 and not like other cars that is 3 or lower (as needed) in that setting.....what is this setting used for, can someone give me a real life example?
