Default MPG Counter

How does it work?

We're currently sat with the avg at 16.2, but is it the average taken over the life of the vehicle, or per trip while the key is in the ignition?

from what I read, it's per fillup, but uses whatever you had as a basis on the est for the filled up tank.

Its the Ford estimated fuel usage / mileage since the last time you reset the calculation. From my experience and looking at others on this site, it is almost always higher than your actual usage by around 1 mpg. On my truck I always push the reset each time I refill so that I can gage my #'s on each tank.

I do the same thing. Seems like a good approach

I think I read somewhere that the fuel mileage on the computer is an average of the last 500 miles driven.

Thanks, Trueblue1

Not exactly. The last 500 miles is what is used to calculate the miles remaining to empty. From page 31 of your owner's manual:

"Distance to empty is calculated using a running average fuel economy,
which is based on your recent driving history of 500 miles (800 km).
This value is not the same as the average fuel economy display."
