I think one of the brake changes in the 10 mentioned, was the Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) thingy added to rear brakes. Could that thing in the picture be part of that?

I finally found it in a parts catalog. It is an axle shaft damper part number 4A263. I am waiting a call from ford to explain what it is there for. I am thinking that ford had a problem with those bolts working loose at one time and this was the solution to stop vibration or there may have been a vibration felt in the cab at a certain speed. Either way it is a damper to stop a vibration not a traction control device not a stability control. I must admit I am disappointed that it isn't the flux capacitor I really wanted one of those.

The Ford Dealer never got back to me I hope they do today.
Johnwill I read that link and that pretty much confirms what I was thinking. That was a mustang but still the same principal.
maxout if you get input from the dealer before I do post it up and I will do the same. Here is a blow up of the rear brakes. It does show the part

Ever find out what that part was? It's a ****ty design. i'm trying to change rear pads and rotors and you can only use the slotted end of the wrench to try to get that caliper bolt out. this bolt isn't moving...only thing I've done is stripped it. Why would they make a part that is proned to rust and you can't get a socket or even the circular end of a wrench on it. having to use the open end of a wrench is just asking for trouble
