Default Smoother

I just turned 5900 miles and my shifts are better; No clunks and No hard downshifts. 1st to 2nd only gets "loosy goosy" under less than 1/4 throttle. All in all, perfect.........

However, 2nd time I pulled my 3300 lb. trailer last month, it did the "slam" into 4th (from either 5th or 6th) on a long climb. Downshifted hard 4 or 5 times and then "figured itself out" and shifted smooth thereafter. Hmmmmmmm, either a slow learner or bad memory, since it did EXACTLY the same thing the first time towing; Bang into 4th 4 or 5 times, then turn "normal".

Side note.....it only did this under half throttle. If I floored it, the shift into 4th was always like "butter".

Keeping a watchful eye.........................

My 2006 F150 Supercrew 4.6L with 80K miles started getting a hard shift from second to first gear. My factory and extended warranty were both expired. I assumed it was a u-joint at first. Crawled underneath and felt a little play in the front joint. Dropped the shaft myself and replaced both u-joints. Put it back together, same problem. A buddy of mine mentioned his newer F150 needing a re-flash so I just went out and bought a Superchips programmer for $200 and set a basic pre-programmed tune to it. Problem solved, cleared up within about 10 miles of driving.

This week I dropped my 2010 5.4 FX2 off at Ford because I finally got tired off the hard downshifts hen the truck was still pretty cold. They reflashed the ECU, and its 100% fixed now.

My 2010 is doing this hard shift down into 1st. Any particular model programmer would be best to try this with? It is pretty frustrating. Thanks!

Default Ford 2010 6- speed hard downshift

My 2010 F150 now has 71,000 miles and the hard downshift from 2nd to 1st is concurring daily after the truck warms up.It is a pretty hard downshift with a sort of clunk.
Has there ever been a resolution to this issue?

My '13 does this from 6 to 5, after truck warms up. Disconnecting the battery helped for around 1 day or so. Not too happy, just out of warranty. 61k miles.

I bought a used 2010 F150 Raptor with the 5.4L 6 speed 110K miles. I have the same damn thing happening. Hard downshift from 2nd to 1st. Seems fine when the transmission temp is cold but as soon as it heats up it happens. Anyone had anymore insight? I already the whole disconnect battery thing and like other people have said it helps for a day.

Sadly my 2010 doesn’t have a dipstick for the transmission.
My problem with he hard shifts ended up being low transmission fluid. A connector seal had a leak.
