Default New with some Questions.

Hello,

I am really considering becoming an F-150 Man and I have some questions for you guys (the pros).

I would like to get into a Pickup, and I think that the F-150 is the way to go... It’s a very capable truck and it is a sharp looking truck as well...

What I am trying to do is get an idea on what leasing options would look like... So far everything online is SALE prices and there is no real idea on lease figures...

I would like to get an Idea before I walk in the Dealer so I don’t get taken for a sucker... (I have never had a ford, or a pickup so I don’t know what to expect and/or consider in bargaining)

I have pretty impressive credit for my age (I am 24 years old) and I currently drive a 2005 Mercedes and have a running credit with Mercedes Financial (which I have been told will make other automakers much more apt to give me financing)

I am looking to cut my payment down while at the same time getting a much more useful vehicle.

I am looking to be spending a max 425$ a month 100$ less then what I am paying now (I would like to pay somewhere around the 350 range but would pay 400+ for a real nice truck) and I do not want to have to put anything down if possible... I am trying to figure out what versions of an F-150 I could be looking at...

I would like Crew Cab and I would really like FX-4 if possible.

Anyone who is currently leasing a 2009 if you could tell me what your deal looks like that would be great...

I don’t want to walk into the dealership telling them I want to spend no more then 425$ a month 0 down and then have them show me what they can do... I will end up getting a lot less then if I know what other people are doing and dealing with currently...

Thanks for all your help in advance... any advice and so on is welcome, so long as it is constructive

Ford is offering the employee price with bonus discounts. The best thing I can tell you is go to the web site and see what is offered.
My guess at looking at the currant model stickers are in the 32k range and you should be able to pick one up with all the discounts for 23 to 24 k.
I'm thinking that Ford has dropped their leasing program for now.

Thanks for the imput... I didnt know if they did or didn't and I guess I will find out... its good to know that 32k range is more 23-24k range... if they do offer leasing options its going to be for even less residual of the truck or whatever... Thanks tho for your imput!

I guess it might be better to just go in and ask outright I just don't want them telling me a load of BS and me not know the wiser...

Lightbulb My Long Two Cents...A Novel, LOL

Joey,
I know it sounds as though you are interested in leasing, while I do have a few tips, I did go thru the buying route so sorry that I am not answering your specific question directly.

First off, I WOULD NOT go into the dealership asking them questions like a wet behind the ears newbie. I would do all of my research online, looking to see what the dealerships are actually paying for these trucks (the "invoice price" I believe, and b/c of course it cost them $$ every month that it sits on the lot unsold) and with the recession we're in, especially for the selling of vehicles you should be able to come away with a steal.

Secondly, I would thoroughly read thru this website

http://www.carbuyingtips.com/

Yes, I know that it has ALOT of information, but the more informed that you walk onto the lot, the more of an advantage you will be at. I was in a similar situation as yourself in 2007 when I was 25yrs old with excellent credit (760) and after spending about three weeks of reading, researching, and studying EVERYTHING that I possibly could, then I finally went to my Ford dealership with a folder in hand with all my printed off info. Right off the bat, your sales rep will know that you did your homework and will know that you're not someone to be played with.

Thirdly, I financed independly outside of the dealership through Capital One Bank Online...

http://www.capitalone.com/autoloans/...C_H1_02_T_ALNU

and they sent me a blank check for up to $55,000 for me to spend on a new vehicle! I freaked out of course, lol, cuz I knew I didn't want to spend nearly that much, but it was nice of course to know that they trusted me with that much money. After learning that this type of financing is available, I will NEVER finance through the dealership again if at all possible cuz that is just another way for them to control the stakes and make you their little puppet.

Fourthly, I don't know how much/badly you NEED a new truck but do not give the impression that you need a new ride...don't be afraid to walk away from that particular dealership and mean it (I'm sure there are many Ford dealerships in your city), and tell them that you don't need to buy a new truck from them anyways. I told my rep that I did not need a new truck and just wanted one to upgrade from older and much smaller 2000 Ford Ranger for a brand new 2007 F-150 XLT (even though I sorta did need a new ride, lol). At one point you know when they walk away and leave you by yourself so that they can go "check with their manager to get the approval" , I literally walked out the dealership (I made sure that he saw me leaving though) and he came chasing after me, and after that I waited no more.

Lastly, you are buying/leasing your truck at the right time of the year if you want an '08 as they are trying to bring in the '09's, so of course they want those 2008's off of their lot like last month! I'm not as familiar with leasing options, but if you do decide to buy (IMHO, better option), don't worry about your monthly payments, b/c they can haggle and 'fanangle' those payments around via interest changes in order to satisfy you and you still end up paying more for the truck in the long run. Go in with a set total dollar amount in your mind of how much you want to pay total for the truck over however many months you plan to pay for it. Always go in as if you have cash for the total amount to pay right then and there (e.g. $23,000) instead of them manipulating the numbers to fit your monthly payments (e.g. $450/month), which after interest, you down the line end up getting screwed and paying something more in the ballpark of $29,000. So when they ask you how much you are looking for to spend per month, still have that figure in your mind ($400-$450/month) (which is part of the math and research you should have done before you went to the dealership), but do not tell them this figure. Just tell them how much you are willing to pay total for the truck and not a dollar more. "Hey, I am willing to write you a check right here and now for $21,000 and not a penny more...take it or leave it fellas". These sales reps are so used to ignorant, uneducated buyers walking onto the lot, that when someone comes along who knows just as much about how things work behind the scenes as they do, they are thrown a complete curve ball. Don't play their game...make them play yours. They need you to make the sale; you don't really need them (unless your truck is about to fall apart on the side of the street, lol!)

Finally, in October 2007 when I went shopping for my brand new 2007 F150 XLT that was stickered at 35K and change, I was at the dealership for under an hour and walked away having written on my Capital One Check for an amount of 22K and change w/free oil changes up to 35Kmiles as well. It has 75% of "the extra ammenities & other non-standard features", and for my first big money buy, I was/am very proud of myself.

So, sorry for talking your ear off, but if I can offer you one thing to assist you in your car buying/leasing experience, it is to KNOW, KNOW, KNOW, who and what product you are dealing with and learn as much about this commodity as possible so that you go into the game with the cards stacked in your favor.

Good luck!!

No prob Joey, anything to help a fellow Ford Rider save some $$$ from these 'stealerships'.

For what the dealer pays gets a little tricky. There is a link on the website that I sent you, but you can go directly to
www.edmunds.com

and type in vehicle info that you are looking for in your truck and it should break it down in to two columns of the MSRP price and then the Invoice price. But it gets even more complicated b/c things such as factory holdbacks and factory to dealer incentives come into play where the factory will pay the dealerships "X" amount of extra dollars just for selling that car...this is just 100% extra money in the dealerships pocket. So say that the MSRP of the truck is 35K but the invoice is 30K. Right there they are making a 5K profit. But on top of that, just b/c the car was sold, the factory will pay them an addt'l 7K (I"m just making these numbers up) b/c it is now moved off of the lot. So in reality, the dealership only ended up paying 23K for the car (30K invoicie price - 7K in factory kickbacks).

So you would need to figure out all of these figures ahead of time (www.edmunds.com), (http://www.carbuyingtips.com/lease3.htm) (go almost to the bottom of that link where it says, "How much did my dealership really pay for this car?"

Once you figure out most of your figures, there is a spreadsheet where it allows you to enter in all your figures and will tell you how much you should be paying for this car. It's kind of complicated at first, but next to your home, this will probably be your second biggest investment that you make in life, so in my opinion it is well worth the time and effort.

Hope this helps!
