I'm in complete agreement that the last thing we need is more government mandates. That being said, just because its a government mandate does not mean its a bad idea. I couldn't imagine not having seat belts and airbags at this point, although they are both government mandated. There are a number of studies showing that DRLs are effective at reducing accidents and I certainly don't think that anyone could argue that increased visibility is a bad thing. I primarily plan on doing this free mod because I like the way it looks, and better visibility is just an added benefit.

The only drawback I see in doing this mod is an increase in the number of bulbs that would have to be swapped with them running all the time. Makes me wish Sylvania was still making the Silverstar amber bulbs I'm running in mine now since I only have 3 spare bulbs :/

Oh I agree there are some things that are nicer and mandated. I also get a discount for having an "alarm" on my truck but that doesn't stop vehicle theft. Lol


In my job I see people roll several times and walk away unscathed and a majority of the time they were distracted and went off the road.

I was on a mini rant as I know these safety items are good but you can throw safety items all day long but until to remove the human element then there will always be idiots that ruin someone's day or lives.

I've been almost hit several times on the side of the road at accidents and I'm blocking the lane with a 47' ladder truck with over a hundred LED emergency housings which translates into thousands of them. I have 6 quartz lights that are 750 watts each. Yet drivers almost hit us.

I replaced my 14 year old Toyota Corolla with my 2013 F150 it was still going strong when I traded it in on the original bulbs that were DRL'S from day one.

I agree. Also as a motorcycle rider, I would rather see bikes only have them so they don't blend in with the rest of traffic.

I would like to understand how a study can prove DRL's prevent accidents. Does that require another study? Statistics like this are pure speculation IMO.

Good point. Watched a lady in a suburban on her cell phone smack the back of a Cherry red Tesla Roadster ( the one based on the Lotus Esprit) this morning in stop and go traffic. She was following this guy for a while. How do you not see that car stopped in front of you with all those rear end lights?

People even manage to hot police cars on the side of the road with their lights on!

That said, your insurance company likely offers a discount for having then turn on.
