They should be bright not dim. And they come on when you put it in drive.

Can you post from where did you get the instructions so I can take it to my dealer when I go do the oil change?

Your whole argument is based on the fact people are stupid and I don't disagree on that. You cannot ignore the facts that drl's do make the vehicle more visible and thus lessen the % of incidents, especially at night.

There will always be morons, with or without drl's.

I like them. I guess they dim down when the headlights come on?

Yes. I just leave the headlights on auto so it can switch back and forth.

I'm bringing my truck in tomorrow morning for the 13E03B recall (PCM reprogram) and I asked the dealer to go ahead and take care of this while its there. I think it looks pretty nice and definitely not a bad idea from a safety standpoint!

Canadian and US trucks all come off the same line it's just a matter of activating them as another poster said. They are safer and there is always that time of day at dusk or dawn or in hazy or foggy weather where the DRL's vs no lights on will help you be seen.

It s a nice feature but I beg to differ that they are safer and prevent a certain percentage of accidents.

Like was said, daytime running lights will make people complacent and they forget to turn their lights on when true lights need to be on. They throw just enough light to see but they have no running lights.

Like someone mentioned, there will always be idiots in the world so it won't matter.

I find that with all these government mandates we just protect the stupid idiots that would have otherwise weeded themselves out 20 years ago. So now we have a society of complete morons driving 4000-6000 pound missiles down the road distracted by phones and god knows what else.

Too bad it wasn't survival of the fittest.

A couple of things. Most newer vehicles have auto-on lamps so remembering to turn them on/off is moot point in 2013. If by chance you don't use auto lamp, gauge lamps and tail lights are not lit while DRL's are on so if your driving with no gauge lights on the dash chances are you've had a few drinks and shouldn't be driving anyways.

Another tidbit many insurance companies in the US offer discounts for the use of DRL's 3% in the case State Farm in New York.

Interestingly enough studies conducted around the world say daytime crashes are reduced from 7% to 10% in the daytime. The US feel they have adverse affects by a study conducted in 2008 but insurance companies and various others studies disagree.

I will say being in Canada and having them for many years I can't say I even notice them anymore on cars they don't distract or add to my drive in anyway I'm just used to them. I think If I see a car without I've said to myself that must be a driver from the US. Bottom line I don't know if they really play any role in safety or not but I don't see any harm with having my DRL's on.
