. There is a certain year that doesn't require drl. For example if in 1990 it was made mandatory a 1989 or older would not require drl.

Ok, I just read through this whole thread. I have a 2013 xlt.

It looks like I can have just the amber front lights as DRLs (no headlights or tail lights), right??

Sounds like the hardest part is finding a dealer that; 1) will do the 5 minute job for free, 2) has a clue on what the heck they're doing.

Does this sound right?

If the vehicle was already in Canada before the law was passed, nothing needs to be done. If the vehicle is to be imported in to Canada it has to be modified.

Called my dealer today and asked about this. He knew what I was asking and said they would do it for free....not a problem.

If you have a 2013 with HIDs when the dealer activates the DRLs the amber turn signals will be the DRLs. If you dont have HIDs then the headlights will be the DRLs. ALL F150 s no matter where they are sold can have this feature activated. When the dealer does it via their computer hook up they will get a warning to check with local authorities to make sure its legal. Tell them that is for you to worry about. I had it done on my 2013 FX 4 that was made for the Middle East.

All 09-12 DRL are the headlights turned on at 80%

All 13-14 DRL HID & Halogen are the blinkers!

I know this for a fact because I have a 13 with HIDs and my DRL are my blinker bulbs. I also have a friend with a 13 with Halogen heads and he just had his DRL activated and it's his blinkers as well.

Its a downer that on the 12s the DTRL are the head lights, I was hoping it would be the amber blinkers.

I was going to have it done until I found that out.

It's my understanding that 2013s (not sure about pre2013s) have a few options for DRLs such as: headlights only, front ambers only, and low tail lights (or no tail lights). I'll let u know because I'm gonna have my dealer do it. What's this illegal crap people keep talking about?? Maybe it's because I live so close to Canada, cause I've never heard such crazy talk about DRLs around here.

Clearly this is easier said than done. Did you not see the "Hotline Assistance Request" I posted 1 page back from my dealer? They tried to turn it on but without a procedure wasn't able to.

Diagnostics Performed:
Attempted to turn DRL feature on. Ws able to access DRL function and turn on, interior lights blink and BCM 2100 code turn on. Performed module configuration , reset tire monitors, battery config reset, and CEI lockout configuration procedure done. Cleared code and retest. Light still blinks and code remains, perform module config but no change. Reinstall as-built data to get module configuration to go through, but DRL feature reverts back to original setting and not on.

Technicians Question:
Is there a step by step procedure for activating DRL? Perhaps I am missing a step? I only see a description in the workshop manual and not an actual procedure.
Users here keep saying you just go in and turn them on; but the reality is the technicians with the keyboard in their hands don't have a specific procedure available to them, and when they ask Ford for support are told to turn it off in the US. Would be great if FordService could officially comment on this!
