Default '09 Fuel Door Problems

The original factory plastic fuel door hinge/bowl assembly on my '09 FX4 has been replaced twice in 11 months. Something behind the hinge either breaks off or detaches causing the fuel door to lose its spring and not close. It just flops around.

On both occasions when it broke I was pumping gas after gently opening the door. I just heard a click upon closing it and the hinge lost tension requiring replacement.

I find it hard to believe that I'm the only F150 owner to have this problem - twice already - while the dealers tell me it isn't common.

Anyone else???

I just had my door hinge break and loose it's tension today after filling up. Closed it as normal and then when I got to my destination 20 miles later the door was open about 1 inch. Guess the plastic doesn't hold very well as I've got 86,000 miles on my '09 and the door has gotten plenty of use.

Anyone have a good repair info about the loose gas doors? Did a search and there isn't much on this yet.

Thanks for the info. Hope yours never breaks!

Thanks,
Rod

A member named Chad1972 fixed this himself. In the second thread I posted above your most recent question, read posts 13 and 14, he tells you how to fix it.

Just had the same issue and thought it would cost me too since my truck is out if warranty. I followed info here and had it fixed in no time. I used a cotter pin for extra strength FYI try it too. Thx for the info.
