Question 04-10 vs 11-15 F150

Hello all, I am currently getting ready to come back from a deployment and starting to look into getting a truck again. I use to own 05 F350 6.0 CC/LB Harley Edition. Loved everything about it except the weekly repair bill even with doing all the work myself. The truck would mainly be used for going to work (about 30 min Highway Drive) during winter and when i need to go to Lowes or w.e. The main thing I am looking for is what your opinions are between the 5.4 models and 5.0. My budget is around 20k or lower is possible. Just looking to see what you guys think between to 2 motors and if it is work the 5k+ extra price tag. My main things i want in these trucks are CC, console shifter, and sunroof. That is why I am looking at anything 04+

If it was me, I would do the 5.0 . I had a 2004 fx4 loaded except no moonroof.
Reasons ...
Newer
6 speed transmission
Better fuel economy
And I like the 5.0 over the 5.4 ... my buddy had zero issues out of his 3v 5.4 with 180 thousand miles but I wasn't so lucky on mine.
I also understand being able to stay within a price range too ..

I am kind of leaning away from the 04-05 5.4 just because they are the first years of the 5.4 and seem to have the most issues with plugs and cam phasers. What year was your buddys 5.4? Also currently keeping my eyes on this one. What do you guys think (kind of high miles tho) http://autoadvantagesd.com/rapid-cit...-549234755.htm

His was a 2008 but I have heard people still having the same issues even in the 2010's
I am not trying to persuade you .I just want you to be aware that it is still a issue with some of the 3v 5.4's
The truck in the link looks really nice

I would recommend as late a model as you can afford with a 5.0 engine.

The thing that scares me the most with the 5.4 trucks is having to do manifolds.

Here in the salt belt they get crusty in just 1 season. Up here a manifold job may require pulling the head due to rust/corrosion.

I don't mind the 5.4 performance wise, but the 5.0 is worth it if you can swing it.

Um, yeah very high miles at almost 40K per year. Look around I got my 2012 FX4 5.0L in 2014 with 11K miles on it. There are better deals to be had.

I can believe you about the rusting, as i live in South Dakota where it snows like half the year and they use salt/sand on the roads. I am basically trying to get the newest truck I can but cant really afford anything over 20k since have 3 other car payments with wife's 2 vehicles (06 Mariner and 10 Focus) and my daily driver focus (06 Focus).

Be aware the 2009 and 2010s have 5.4 engines with the same 6speed that is still used in 2015. big difference in performance with the 6 speed. The two piece spark plug problem went away in late 2007 with new heads that use normal spark plugs. Phasers and solenoid problems also seem reduced around the same time as the new heads. The 5.4l engine/6speed combo was used in the expedition right up to 2014.
